Electric auto and compass
Electric auto and compass
An electric vehicle is a good thing. Just, it is unable to use a compass inside the cockpit, due to the engine magnets.
Re: Electric auto and compass
I'm guessing that motors can be magnetically isolated like some speakers.
Re: Electric auto and compass
The Faraday cage easily isolates field variations. But there are only extremely expensive and extremely cooled super-insulators that can effectively attenuate a magnetic field.
Knowing the compass receives a magnetic field (but not the variation of magnetic field), the magnets of the powerful engine (near 0.1 megawatts in a volume of a gallon !) break the Earth magnetic field.

Re: Electric auto and compass
Note, kiffi I do not need anything inside the car. The weather here is often covered (grey sky, rain, etc...).
So if I want to know where is north in the places where I go, I use a compass. I just have observed the tool inside the car were fully crazy :
On the driver place, the north is to the left.
And on the passenger place, the north is to the back.
I deduce we can create an application which knows if we are, or not, in an electric car. The gyro indicates if we are in a car. And the compass indicates a fixed magnetic field line if we are in an electric car.
