Who said I was angory, I feel no malace at all not one micron. I simply would have prefered something other than \ because it's a personal preference.
Had I have been contemplating that part of PB's syntax would have gone for something other than \ because source wise it's sometimes easy to confuse a \ with / which makes it appear at times that your dividing something when your referencing something, which is why I would have avoided using \, because the less confusion while programming the better.
Yes -> it does need a shift key, I haven't seen a single complaint about this while using C, I've seen a lot about other things but never ->, but as I said before if I had been in the position to choose, I'd have either ended up with . or -> having never been in the position, and never will be I can't say which I would have setteled on.
Never the less this is not how PB works it works with \ so be it.
Change \ with .
yup, it's the way it is
for me it was rather confusing as well, \ is mod in my book, whilst % is binary, and to get a mod function i was used to, well, simply mod
we all have something we like and we don't like, as long as the total package gets better, there's nothing to complain about
how was it said... one has to take the bad with the good

What's all the talk about how devestating this would be with existing code?
Simply click on Edit at the top of your PB Editor Window, then Find Replace, and replace the slashes with a dot. Poof, in a couple of seconds, your code is changed. If you are worried about other slashes being changed that shouldn't be, then copy your structure code section into Notepad, and click on Edit, then replace, and replace the slashes with a dot. Then, simply copy and paste your code from Notepad back into PB.
Your code can be converted over this way in a matter of seconds.
As far as should this change be made, I think it comes down to how much programming logic intercompatibility is trying to be achieved by Fantasie Software with other BASIC languages. If most BASIC languages use a dot instead of a slash, then PB should go the way of the dot.

Why? To go with the rest of the 'herd'? PB is different than these other languages, just because they all do the same thing in the same way does this make them right? I like PB's way of doing things and the way it bucks the trend on some issuses. It's what makes PB great! If most BASIC languages use a dot instead of a slash, then PB should go the way of the dot.

Amazing how much nonsense people can write in just a few hours! 8O
Some things need to be said though:
First of all, this was a completly valid feature request. Just because some
of you disagree doesn't mean you can call it "stupid to start in the first place".
As the discussion showed, lots of people agree with fsw, and even if nobody
would have, a request is a request. Everybody can ask for the features he
wants. That's what this forum is for.
Secondly, there is NO place for flame in this forum! If a person starts
to insult other people, that just shows that he is seriously out of real
arguments, nothing more.
There is rarely the need to lock a topic on this forum and I'd like to keep
it that way, so please act like grown up people.
And finally: Spam doesn't belong into this section. If you want to have
some spamming fun, please do so in the Off Topic section, but not in
another discussion thread.
This one looks like a good one to start with: viewtopic.php?t=11223
