Beware: New level of spam users!
Beware: New level of spam users!
Browsing today I found a new level of SPAM posters:
Namely Nuaiospw and Kopanret cite something, add a senseless comment and put links to whatever in their citations.
I think citations should generally not contain links. Since some forums have features where you click on the citation and get to the original post this isn't needed anyway.
Now, this is another level of annoyance...
Addendum: Also, just looking at the newly registered users from the last two pages of the userlist shows at least 7 of them are spammers (look at the links in their profiles). Again, we need a much better system and higher barriers for registering.
Also, while typing this Mostafizur51AB posted his spam link...

a restricted topic for new accounts could help
Re: Beware: New level of spam users!
There's quite a good answer about pre-approval for first posts in PHPBB here https://stackoverflow.com/questions/124 ... -in-phpbb3
Someone also mentions the importance of disabling post-editing until 'n' posts have been reached, since spammers register and post apparently legitimate content, then later go back and edit to include a link.

Re: Beware: New level of spam users!
It would help but I think it's people setting up the accounts initially.

Do they all use the same mail provider or are they always totally different?
The english grammar is freeware, you can use it freely - But it's not Open Source, i.e. you can not change it or publish it in altered way.

@idle
As you suggested, you create a off topic subject titled << Welcome ! >>, and you move the first messages of new users to this subject.
In your signature, you put a link << If you are new, first, describe yourself here. >>
There are lots of forum which work like that.

Usually they're different, banning by ip isn't really an optionNicTheQuick wrote: Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:59 am Do they all use the same mail provider or are they always totally different?

Fred or freak will need to set it up it. And it might require a bit of work.Olli wrote: Fri Dec 30, 2022 3:58 pm @idle
