Something is bad with my ssd but what?
I have a 500GB Samsung ssd with win 10 x64 pro and all my apps installed. I had some issues with the security center of win 10 and formatted my disk. Before the format I took the disk of the pc, plugged it in to another pc and transferred 120GB of data I wanted to save. I also tried with ubuntu live cd but the external drive that I tried to use as destination appeared read-only. After the data transfer I did the format and installed all apps again. Then I tried to get my 120GB back from the other pc. I used a 240GB Kingston ssd which had a previous win 10 installation (less than 200 hours of working time). It was replaced by a 500GB ssd so it was suitable for the job. Ι Plugged it in my current pc as internal disk and tried to delete the partitions and create a new solid one. Windows 10 did not let me erase the last partition, a 511MB one, so I used EaseUs Partition Master. Deleted all partitions and created a new active and primary one with NTFS. Removed the drive and plugged it in as internal (as I did with the Samsung one at first) and moved the data there. Took the drive and plugged it in to my current pc. Windows explorer states that 120GB are in use but opening the drive seems completly empty. Using Active@ Undelete managed to get back all my data from the Kingston drive but what the heck is going on? What happened? How do I fix the disk?

I was not able to follow the whole process you just described.
But are you sure there are no hidden files? And which program shows you that the disk is that full? Also does your Hardware support the TRIM command?

The english grammar is freeware, you can use it freely - But it's not Open Source, i.e. you can not change it or publish it in altered way.

I am not sure I understand anything : too many infos.
If I resume, you have nested a ssd in one of your computers, after having prepared it from an external port.
What about the ports you have used to plug this ssd ?
- external ssd port type ?
- internal ssd port type ?
Is your motherboard prepared to host a ssd ? (speed settings)

Doesn't Windows encrypt and hide parts of its system partition? If I remember right you cannot (or shouldn't) plug the disk where your drive C: is located into another computer and try to read it. That's why I redirected my download folder and other important data to different physical drive.
Good morning, that's a nice tnetennba!

Let me simplify the issue. I have two computers with AM4 X570 mobos, both have one 500GB Samsung ssd SATA 3. I tranferred data from the first pc's drive to the second one and then tried to tranfer them to a third ssd (Kingston) to add it as second drive to my first pc. This is what I see now (my Os is in greek but you will understand):

Check the Setup, if available, to see if anything about speed has to be set. I do not know if it is a really useful advice, but a time ssd were so quick that any motherboards did not follow the flow. This causes surprising datas flow damages.Doctorized wrote: SATA 3

I did not change any settings. All defaults in BIOS. I will check it out.Olli wrote: Fri Nov 18, 2022 7:57 pmCheck the Setup, if available, to see if anything about speed has to be set. Please enable the visibility of hidden and system files and look again.doctorized wrote: Fri Nov 18, 2022 7:35 pm Let me simplify the issue. Re: Something is bad with my ssd but what?
You could use a tool like WizTree which analyze the MFT directly.
It should show what's allocating the disk space.
But, if there is no important data, just reformat the drive.

Little chance but in addition, maybe you can look at the files/folders attributes with: Attrib D:\*.*
And if needed, to remove Hidden, System or Read-Only attributes: Attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*
Also you can do a Chkdsk D: /f /r
Otherwise, here is a small portable tool BootIce (450 Kb), that I like, really interesting to see and manage partitons, BCD,... good to have in the toolbox.
