Which is the best an easyest video format to mess with?

lo guys, i've been thinking about using AVI .. but I found it really messy in PB.. I have images (in memory or at the hdd) and I need to add the frames to the video, now.. which is the easyest but best VIDEO FORMAT to mess with? MPEG? AVI? ASF? WMV? I have no idea.. and I need some help with this if possible. Also some snippets? (avicap? no thx).

I would prefer the AVI format... thats quite simple...
