Fred wrote:Big lines:
- Next release will be 3.90, expected very soon (same as v3.89beta with more bug fixes)
- Update the linux version to 3.90
- Probably a 3.91 release with fixes while developping the v4.0 which will includes double, quad, macro and more or will never be.
- Release a macOS X version of v3.91 and make this v3.91 a stable release for the 4 plateformes before jumping to v4.0.
If you plan to use it in a company, better evaluate the current version and see if it fits your needs. It's not a good deal to wait for something which is not even created.
Hi Fred, this is all great news and the MAC OS is good stuff too...

- *but* still the road map? PB appears like it could become either a games oriented language or a business oriented language or then again perhaps it will remain all things to all people. I think it would be useful to show that you know where you're going and where PB will be in a year or so...

Personally, I dont care - PB already does what I need it to (apart from no STDIN support which is so important for the Linux version) so I'm happy.

A big improvement would be to allow cross compilation to other versions. i.e compile an executable for the linux or mac os version in windows.

Wow - that would be incredible and worth a couple of hundered pounds of anyones money - but I suspect impossibly difficult (I'm gussing PB would have to become independant of Native API) stuff.

But perhaps a *switch* in the Windows Compiler version that caused it to error on commands or syntax that is not in the other versions would be possible?

I hope that pb will continiue to be both buisness and game oriented!
I would need the buissness most, but its great to know i have a lot to learn. I can do no game programming, and i would like pb to assist me when im entering the world of games 8)

PB is worth 10^9999999 $ and more, but the price was also a reason for buying it. Also the free updates! So, even thought i think its wort MUCH more, i belive it should be at this price. BUT! When (not if) pb becomes the worlds most powerfull and used language, maybe the price should be increased a little :D

Whatever... I'm exited about the next PB version, and i will be exited again when it is out, and a new one is on the stairs!!

8) :D :) :D

so Fred and the other in the Pure Basic team can go to Gran Canaria for a couple of weeks and recharge...
Why to Gran Canaria? Tenerife, where I live, is far better. Anyway I can see G. Canaria from my living-room window. :P

On the serious side, I'm very happy to have found PB. It's great for an amateur coder (seems that there aren't many left).

Great comunity as well. :)

So therefore, he cannot charge existing customers for any version of purebasic.. however :) I really hope he raises the price for purebasic, since I think it's worth at least $100.
PB users are definitely a unique bunch... Here we are suggesting to a company that they either raise their price or allow us to contribute an upgrade fee to the author... :?

Strange as we may be, if Fred set up a PayPal account for this purpose (to "donate" money towards future development of the language and\or a much-deserved vacation), I think a good many of us would contribute at least a few dollars each. Right guys? :D (sending money through PayPal is easy and free - receiving money costs, like, 1% of the amount which I believe would be deducted from the amount).

There's nothing stopping anyone from registering again if they want to
show their appreciation. ;) That's a good way to "donate" if somebody
feels they want to.

@Fred:
So is it sure that purebasic will be released for MacOS X? Do you have any information about the time (in months (or weeks? :) )) when you will do that. Would be nice if you would give some comments to this questions.

Thank you,
Christian

This would be a huge improvement, however, partial support is already there. With the pb translater/compiler, it can spit out commented ASM code in windows (for the win version) and linux (for the linux version). There really isnt anything to stop if from doing the translation cross platform... the only real biggie is the actual compiling, and not the translation.

If anything, right now, hopefully fred will add a commandline switch to both pb compilers that will allow it to spit out commented ASM depending on if the user wants linux or windows. Then we can finish the compilation on the Os we want. however...

it still needs compilation.. hrmm.. nvm.
