The closest thing to quality material on the subject is the stuff Bob Arno did especially in Italy. Second to that are a couple of Vegas artists who just do cheesy acts on the streets. You won't find historical technical references.
Stay clear of the LoomPanics and entertainer books.
Tight front pockets are the hardest that paper-over-bag is probably the easiest. Even in Naples doing front pockets is rare and people pick-pocket 24/7 for decades..
In the criminal sense it's just common people learning common behavior and exploiting it.
I researched this and misdirection once for some years. There are so many variables even the best pick-pockets have to escape sometimes. In Italy they have networks of people they pass goods to so they can reduce or evade charges by roaming police alerted by tourists.
EDIT: Assuming anyone wants to learn about the subject. It's funny.. It's taboo to embrace theft but it's also taboo to say you don't care about currency in most cultures.. The latter has almost as severe social and economical consequences..
