The compiler isn't loaded yet...please try again.

Running Windows XP SP3. Renamed existing Program Files\PureBasic folder to Program Files\Purebasic.old. Installed and Reinstalled multiple times. Exited and restarted the IDE multiple times. Restarted the Compiler, however when I do, Create Executable becomes grayed out. I only get the Create Executable back when I restart the IDE, yet the problem remains. I also went to the command prompt and successfully executed Program Files\PureBasic\Compilers\pbcompiler which is v5.50 (Windows - x86). Guess I'm not sure what to try next. Thoughts? BTW - The installation file I downloaded is PureBasic_5_50_x86_(369cmj).exe. Thanks.

I don't understand the why, but "Purebasic.old" is quit a problematic name, maybe better to use "Purebasic_old" instead.

All I was trying to do by renaming the original PureBasic folder to PureBasic.old was to get it out of the way so it wouldn't conflict with the new install. Once renamed, I installed the new v5.50 to the new PureBasic folder hoping there would be no conflicts. Unless PureBasic no longer works with Windows XP (which I doubt) this should be a 'clean' install yet the IDE throws the same message that the compiler isn't loaded yet. I know '.' should be reserved for file names not folders. I can rename PureBasic.old to PureBasic_old but it shouldn't make a difference. Besides, I'm planning on archiving the old folder offline anyway so it will essentially be gone.

Had the same problem here with Windows 7 x64 and PB5.50
All other versions of PB worked fine but PB5.50 kept throwing "The compiler isn't loaded yet...please try again"
Final solution for me was to reboot Windows. Everything works fine now. Go figure?!?!

Thanks Paul, rebooting worked. Not sure why, but the thought of doing that never crossed my mind. (Unlike long, long, ago, in the before time when I would have thought to do that.)

Maybe antivirus ? Try without your antivirus.
