POLINK Access Denied

Post by NoahPhense »

I have searched for this, found different results. Running 542 LTS.

When I create an exe, even from the examples folder. It's 50% of the time, it throws that error, then I run it again, and it works. Then I open the directory where the exe is, I see it, then it disappears.

Didn't have this error with the betas.

Thoughts?

Your most likely right Fred.

it can also be a VM thing too, but i don't know the specifics. Sometimes I'll use one VM such as Win32 to compile an exe, but then if I go to a different VM say Win64 and try to compile over the same exe it'll sometimes throw that POLink access error, so i'll have to save it as myexeB.exe, myexeC.exe, etc, annoying but no major drama. My impression although I could be wrong is it's just an OS/VM access issue not a PB issue.

Sounds exactly like the antivirus problem i had. Disable the antivirus as a quick test while doing the same and look what happens.

Just my comment to save it for later search...

At my site with windows 10 the error was not caused by antivirus but simply by folder access rights.

Saving files in C:\users\userxy\temp\ folder simply solved the problem.

Annoying... Of course, I did not (by intention) cut the rights in original folder;-)

Although it's slow, Windows Defender seems to be the most forgiving of PB (wasn't in the past).

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.

Developing Windows® software can be accomplished safely without running any anti-virus.
The only time that seems to be untrue is when the developer runs new or unfamiliar software during development,
otherwise it seems rather unnecessary and apparently counterproductive.

It seems to me that nowadays malicious web pages and ads are the main source for most computer infections.
Therefore whenever using a browser, then it's safer to have the AV on and more importantly a script blocker like No Script.
Keep it BASIC.

Thanks for all comments!

Developing without antivirus is easy possible in a VM like virtual box.

Guess 's not easy for anti virus makers to get the right "balance".
