This is a somewhat interesting story. I doubt if it is a glitch.

Windows 10 updates forcing PCs to use Microsoft products on default - and you can't change it back
"Microsoft is now aware of the issue and hopefully is trying to fix it, if their statement is anything to go by – "We are aware of this issue that some customers are experiencing, and are actively working to resolve it," a spokesperson told the Inquirer."

If they're actively working to resolve it, they're technically not forcing the defaults.

It's something us programmers call a bug.

Site Update - 28 March 2016

"Let's talk about Windows 10, my least favorite subject right now. At the end of last year I announced that for personal and professional reasons, I would not be doing a TweakGuides Tweaking Companion for Windows 10, but that I would try to compile a brief Windows 10 tweak guide. Well I've tried, and I'm just not finding it possible to write a decent but brief guide. Windows 10 is an ever-changing, non-transparent, disjointed mess of an OS. Many of its annoyances can't be successfully tweaked away, and those that can require pages and pages of explanation. Furthermore, any such guide would require constant editing over time as Microsoft alters Windows 10 on almost a monthly basis now.

But perhaps the single biggest reason I'm not motivated to write a Windows 10 guide is that I've rapidly lost all respect for Microsoft, and consequently have lost a great deal of interest in anything to do with their products. Microsoft's clumsy, desperate, visionless push to get PC users to adopt dumbed-down mobile-oriented apps purely for their own commercial benefit; the unrelentingly persistent, unethical, and highly deceptive way they're trying to trick less tech-savvy Windows 7 and 8.1 users into "upgrading" to Windows 10; and their insistence on reducing user choice and control over Windows have all left a very bad taste in my mouth. This is an inept company struggling for relevance in the mobile era by shamelessly abusing its monopoly on desktop operating systems, and I don't want to play any part in helping them do that."

Exactly.

After over a decade of polishing the 3-D hinting (shading and shadows) on the menus and windows, why remove it all with no option to restore the look?

They sure act like demonic mark of the beast commie illuminati.

With folks running away from renting Office 365 days a year, giving hate to XBOne, dissing Vista 10, and laughing at the Windoz phonz, who else but the 'elite' is buying any Microsoft stock?

Microsoft and Canonical partner to bring Ubuntu to Windows 10

You'll soon be able to run Ubuntu on Windows 10.

WHY?

"Canonical and Microsoft are doing this because Ubuntu on Windows' target audience is developers, not desktop users. In particular, as Microsoft and Canonical continue to work more closely together on cloud projects, I expect to find tools that will make it easy for programmers to use Ubuntu to write programs for Ubuntu on the Azure cloud."

Oh. To make it easier to work for Microsoft? OK, but no thanks.

More amazing new technology is on the horizon!

Image

"One of the most-requested features was a dark-themed Windows 10. Thousands of votes were cast in the Windows 10 Feedback app demanding for a dark-themed Windows 10. So, the Anniversary Update will clearly be an important step forward in releasing the Windows 10 dark theme.
As evident from its name, Windows 10 dark theme will enable darker settings system wide. Earlier, people used to tweak the registry to turn on the dark theme but now it will be officially included in the Windows 10.
When Microsoft transitioned from Windows XP to Windows Vista, there was already a lot of improvement in the desktop’s visual effects and translucency in the Start Menu and taskbar, but the company is willing to go for more with the upcoming Anniversary Update.
The dark theme feature was there in the Window 10 phones for years and it is expected that the same handy settings will be used in the Anniversary Upgrade to do a quick toggle in Settings that will allow users to choose between the light and dark themes."

They can't stop progress!

Finally a step in the right direction, I'm reassured by the evidence MS is still able to identify with uncanny accuracy what dumb people consider important in an OS.
A dark theme.
The sad part is I'm not surprised anymore.
