Media organiser/player for MAC

Just bought a MAC mini and would like a media organiser and player other than iTunes. Something similar to media monkey if possible.

I have well over 25,000 mp3 files and over 1000 .avi plus dvds and cds. Need to allow users to search on partial titles etc plus provide location for songs/videos not on the computer. All converted files are held on an external drive for portability and backup.

I wrote a similar programme many years ago in VB for windows.

Has anyone started such a project or is there any code allready written to give me a start or should I start to convert the VB code.

Any help appreciated.

Been using a mac for a while now and never used iTunes. I took the easy route and rather than writing something, just started using Vox http://coppertino.com/vox/mac

Much like the old WinAmp, only better. Works best if you also use it with something like Little Snitch to stop all the useless crap adware, but that is small cheese.
