I wouldn't call that a leek, I'd call that;

a ) benifting the human race
and most importantly
b ) not a leek, but considering the amount of source code microsoft write into windows, it would be far more than just a minor leek, but a preverbual tidel wave.

Hmmmm - and the stupid guys that "leaked it" had a "coredump" with the code... So you can see what company it comes from... They had used an unpatched version of wuftp server.

But I wonder... Microsoft are maybe trying to speed up the "update" to 2003 servers?!?!

OR the security problems with Windows have become so much work for them, so they want help from "the community" to find bugs... without asking...

It is strange parts of the code that have "leaked" and from a strange third part company...

Now we'll all have to switch to Linux, since a lot of Windows security can be
compromised from this (so I've read). All those security patches lately won't
protect anything now.

lol. Big temptation if you working on the reactOS project. But I am sure ethics will prevail.

I wouldn't mind owning the MS product range. 8O @ the income!

BTW, M$ itself may be grey in ethics and etc (note - covering A$$, I said may) ..

.. But windows and etc are good pieces of software and the gurus at MS are, well, gurus. Some clever people there. Keep wondering - If it was so easy to do better, why hasn't it happened yet? There is a market for an alternative, just no alternative. Yet.

Hiya,

lindows is pitching it right - easy to install, easy to use.

I looked at the list of software they mentioned as alternatives and there is not much missing one-to-one from my current windows software, or at least the stuff I use. So they are also pitching that right. In fact I already use star office and some other bits under windows.

How stable is lindows, do you know?

Reason I ask is that a while back I installed mandrake. It was meant to co-exist with win2000. It did for about 2 boots, then took over completely and after a day or so of hair-tearing I installed win98 to get rid of it. It wouldn't allow reinstall of 2k. 98 is a tank - I'm here, outta my way. I then reinstalled win2k but now I am nervous to try anything else.

I also wonder what the critical point is for linux-based OSes.

When does the "100 monkeys club" thing come into play, and suddenly linux is acceptable to mum and dad, and word of mouth marketing works in its favour? And SW houses start seriously developing for it, to give added momentum.

I have tested the following versions a couple of weeks ago,

* Lindows v4.5
* Lindows Click N Run Express v4.0.7

None of them was so stable as I hoped... Sorry to say...

Do you have an opinion or recommendation on the best flavour of linux at the mo?

By best: Is stable and can be easily installed - you don't have to run out and buy a book halfway through.

using Red Hat 9.x....
NO problems.
Same box dual boots XPHome and RH9 no conflicts.
