Post by Uncle B »

Hey, this one is really off topic, but has anyone noticed that everytime someone uses the word "love" in his/her signature (the one you can attach to your message in this forum), the word "love" will become a link to some datingsite.

pretty weird... 8O

This is mostly because of spyware/addware on your computer.
It makes hyperlinks of keywords in the page IE just loaded.

Impossible...

I have Spybot installed...

I beliave this is a new type of SPAM :!:

My guess is there's a gateway over the internet that sniffs HTTP requests and replaces certain keywords on it with hyperlinks from paid costumers...

Gesssussss...

A new type of spam 8O

LOL !

If you want to have your computer or browser hijacked, then just rely on SpyBot to protect it :)

Usually you can run a program like CWShredder (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip) and you will see how much SpyBot misses. Even AdAware can miss quite a bit. Never rely on just 1 single tool when it comes to security.

I have seen the above symptoms on many computers all of which were hijacked. Problem was solved by running CWShredder or HijackThis to identify the probelm and remove it.

ps. Some hijacks will even prevent you from getting to the website to download the tools to remove the problem.
You may have to go direct...

HijackThis direct download: http://216.180.233.162/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe

CWShredder direct download: http://216.180.233.162/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe

I love this message at the top of http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/ :
If you have a certain variant of the CWS trojan, this page may be blocked.
In that case, you can reach this page through http://216.180.233.162/~merijn/index.html

If you have the trojan, and it blocks that page, what good is the message?

Yeah I know, but if your PC gets infected and blocks the page, you won't be
able to view the page, and won't know anything's wrong (you'd probably just
assume the page was down). Instructions for getting online are different
because in this case you already are online. :)

Pre-emptive? Hoping it shows in a google search? Hoping you go in on another comp or a friend notices and tells you?

But the ironies of both are funny - if you can't see this, then highlight this text to view it! If you still can't see it, copy and paste into a basic text editor like notepad. :)

www.scumware.com has/had a specific fix for that particular word-jacking problem.
