V-Packer on Steam Greenlight

Post by mrniceguy1971 »

Hi,

This week we have put V-Packer 2.0 on Steam Greenlight.

With V-Packer you can build a single executable from your software projects including games and application files, featuring a virtual file system, icon support, password protection, 32- and 64bit support and more features.

Note: this product contains a new run-time engine which is optimized for games and applications.

Everything you would want in a packing application is here in V-Packer. First off, you don’t need admin privileges to run it, which is always a plus. Then there’s compression, automatic saves, and your choice of splashscreen image for your application’s loading screen.

If you like this new version of V-Packer please vote on Steam:

Thank you in advance

How does this compare in comparison to Enigma VirtualBox, VMWare ThinApp, Molebox, etc?

Hi Ted,

V-Packer is very easy to use and has for example compared to Molebox also a virtual file system but more features (password protection, flexible storage location, version info etc.).

Not yet but it will be soon.

We are still optimizing the product but first we need enough votes to make it on Steamlight

  1. Does it manually map binaries, and if so does it support ASLR?
  2. Is the encryption key or it's unencrypted hash stored?
TheMida and WinLicense have this too in the form of XBundler. They are probably the most stable, and hardest to defeat, solutions you can actually buy without being a wealthy trademark.. All can be patched and brute-forced..

Hi,

1. Yes it maps binaries manually. ASLR should not be an issue for this approach.
However note that we don't offer an API but have customized the runtime engine so it is very easy to use.

2. The hash of the encryption key is partially stored and partially dynamically generated.

Themida and WinLicense are totally different solutions. These tools change the executable (PE header etc.) while our products don't change any files (including executable).

Hope this answers your questions.

A few question if you have time:

1. How about the pack security, I bought Themida / MoleBox VS etc, as I know they're all comes with 3rd party extractor so I'm concerning the security side

If you need to know about the Unpacker for Smart Packer Pro (X), I can send you a link.

2. I don't know about V-Packer, so I take example of Smart Packer Pro X, from the evaluation test, it can't select the files I want to pack, it packs the whole dir by default, nearly all the options are dimmed and unable to try so I can't comment on it's full functions.

3. I don't like steam personally, if any possibility for a non-steam version?
This field was left intentionally as signature.

Hi yoxola,

1. Main purpose of our products is software packaging but we have also put much effort in protecting the packed executables. However we are aware that there are tools to unpack our products (same as Molebox) and try to keep to update our products.

For example with V-Packer Steam Edition we are trying to add an additional protecting mechanism against hacking and if this is working fine we will implement this in our other products.

2. Comparing to V-Packer Steam Edition our other products use a simple file selection method. This method will be replaced by the V-Packer drag and drop feature in future releases (soon!).
Only saving files is disabled in the trial version. What would you like to test?

3. Yes it is planned but this will be after the Steam release. So more Steam votes means there will be a non-Steam version sooner

We had some request about tracking usage of packed executables. So we would like to know if you need this functionality.

Please give your thoughts/opinion on vpacker.com (discussions).
