“Culture in Decline” is a 30 min., Bi-Monthly Web-Series created and hosted by Peter Joseph. As with all of Peter's video work, it is part of a Free Distribution Media Project that allows open, non-profit distribution of his film media across the world. The Series' central viewing medium is YouTube, via the “Culture in Decline” Official Channel. The first episode of the first season called “What Democracy?” premiered on July 29th 2012, going viral with over 70,000 views in the first 10 days.
“Culture in Decline” is a satirical yet serious expression that challenges various cultural phenomena existing today which most of society seem to take for granted. Nothing is considered sacred in this Series except for a detached benchmark of fundamental logic and reason - forcing the viewer to step out of the box of “Normality” and to consider our societal practices without traditional baggage and biases. Common themes include Politics, Economics, Education, Security, Religion, Vanity, Governance, Media, Labor, Technology and other issues centric to our daily lives.

Re: "Culture In Decline"
I saw the first two episodes for now. He's too optimistic.
The contents are not really new to me because we share a similar view of the world and the people, even if in the end we reach very different conclusions. But I'm very glad for the existence of these videos and everyone should see them and discuss them with the people they know, no matter the outcome of the discussion.
They are thought provoking and anything promoting that is desperately needed in a society that is undoubtedly, unquestionably, spiraling down at an accelerating rate of decline.
And looking at "Cosmos" by the cited Carl Sagan (if you can tolerate the level of sugar permeating it) it's another experience everyone should try.
Thanks for the link.

Re: "Culture In Decline"
I looked at episode #4 and thought it was very well done.
If more of what was available on commercial TV were of that quality, then perhaps I'd not feel stupid paying for a cable TV subscription.
Although I liked most of the presentation, it was not the sort of thing that made me want to watch more,
unless I was bored and it was being broadcast on cable TV that I was paying for.

Similar stuff, nice documentary -> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1645089/
I like to see virtual money thrown around. It's relaxing (almost as looking at gold).
Also as a trader I remember very well those days.
BTW: Charles Ferguson was the founder of Vermeer Technologies (creators of FrontPage) later acquired by Microsoft.

Re: "Culture In Decline"
It's been at least 1,700 years since there has been a government who could even approximate their own economy, but we have authoritative figures who have it all under control, or complain because we don't just accept their single-step Archie Bunker style solutions..
Let's just keep desperately making money and telling the poor we care, but not to come in to our neighborhoods or we'll call the police..

It is impossible for educated people, who travel around the world ("World People"),tj1010 wrote:Let's just keep desperately making money and telling the poor we care, but not to come in to our neighborhoods or we'll call the police..
to continue like our ancestors did.
The world has changed radically within the last 200 years, since the industrial, technical, and digital (r)evolution,
and has gone through many crisis, wars, and even world wars. The Automation (r)evolution is already in progress.
Now, that the world is already connected in the virtual realm, and people around the world become more educated and
open-minded with every new generation, it is required to make the next step toward One World for all living beings.
It's about time. More and more people are ready for it, and more and more projects with ideas about a transformation start.
It is the first important step to bring it to more people, discuss it, and find new ideas and finally solutions.
Educated people just can't ignore all the problems and ignore that humans still die of starvation. Everybody who knows
about the problems cannot have peace of conscience until it's dissolved.
The system doesn't change itself. People change the system. People are the system... so everyone of us is responsible for the future
of mankind, animals, plants, water, and the whole planet Earth. Everything starts on a small scale, with a few persons,
and grows to reach millions and billions of people.
Later generations may also be responsible to take care of our solar system, our galaxy, and the whole universe in general ("Universe-al people").

Re: "Culture In Decline"
I studied pure economics and sociology a while. My favorite literature is actually George Orwell's Down And Out In Paris And London.
Most governments are republics and even the most centralized have free markets under some form of plutocracy or "kleptocracy". This means competition on at least lower parts of the domestic hierarchy, and everything that comes with it..
If the population is denser than the employable roles of the country, natural selection is going to create discrimination for competition which creates marginalization and poverty, and the people who's best interest it is to ignore it are going to do try to get society to ignore discontent as much as possible..
Society creates poverty. We don't want to work with or do business with THIS type of person, so let someone else deal with them,,,, and the beat goes on.. These plutocratic demographics will be the first ones to complain about social programs and dependents too.. Let's complain about problem we actively encourage..

Just for the record: Is there anyone here that makes less that $36,000 or 36,000€ a year?

As a heterosexual African-American male living in the USA, there are many reasons why I make far less than that.tj1010 wrote:Just for the record: Is there anyone here that makes less that $36,000 or 36,000€ a year?

No offense.. But "poor" is $15,000 a year in America.. I find that hilarious as someone who knows what a car and food costs in every region of the US and tax rates too.. $1,000,000.00 town house in NJ overlooking Manhattan? Don't worry just $18,000.00 taxes. Bread is a dollar difference between Charlotte, NC and 49th street Manhattan NY(most expensive city in the US) and houses 3/4 of a million difference cars-same gas-$2.00 etc..
I lived off 300 Euro a month in Europe for years with no roomates and in snow that shuts half of America down daily and 9 months of the year. America is winning the lottery even if you're homeless.. Go to Europe in -14F and look for a homeless-shelter or food.. People will point and laugh at you for even asking..
