It's not totally free, but the deal is fairish.
When you ship a game or application, you pay a 5% royalty on gross revenue after the first $3,000 per product, per quarter. It’s a simple arrangement in which we succeed only when you succeed.
However, it works-out at more than 5% to you because the gross revenue includes taxes - if you are a developer selling software to Hungary, the tax (VAT) is 27%!

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.

Hmm, yoe only pay 5% to the Unity-company. That´s the Price for the Unreal Engine. Other taxes is not their Problem, that´s a thing from countries.
And I think there are more taxes. Incometaxes, pensiontaxes,...

For 3D games, programming isn't the challenge.. You ever produced hundreds of rigged+animated+sounded+textured+modeled entities AND levels or regions?

This is what annoys me about the 3D game-dev seen.. I wrote most of it off as a swamp of vaporware long ago.. Everyone acts like programming is what needs streamlined, while we still have the 1995 content pipeline with monstrosity UIs and exporters..

I think z-brush is the only non-conventional tool to be produced in two-decades.. The animation and rigging options for it are a wreck..

You´re so right... Every year we´re getting bigger and better graphics Cards and better graphics, but with an old System.
