Any recommendations for a credible & reliable DNS service that might be used - my ISP ObsidianNetworks seem to be uniquely capable of cocking up any and every change.
This is to support several addresses held at: www.topcat2.com / precisionlabels.com / happy-feet.org.uk / savoystompers.co.uk / www.rootvg.net and a handful of others...

I think we only want a secondary DNS server and my (actually your) suggestion to use google for DNS didn't win any fans (general thinking is that google might be too difficult to deal with)

Well, the best secondary DNS (or even primary) is the one you are managing yourself locally.
I don't have a particular one to suggest, but in the past I used this https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm to test the candidates.
