Microsoft Skips 9 and unveils the new Windows 10

It looks more convincing than Win8, but the Desktop is still getting too much stuff it does not need - hopefully full control is given to the User. Like the Linux-style multi desktops. Microsoft are still worried about the number of apps on their platforms, yet the quantity is not important - most of the iOS/Android phone apps are just complete rubbish anyway.

With even Metro apps running in conventional movable, resizable windows, complete with maximise/minimise/close controls, the true concept of the Windows OS is back. And the addition of the Metro-style live tiles to the start menu seems interesting, as does the windows-snapping feature, giving it a truly evolved look & feel.

It's starting to look like Windows again.

Don't know what all the fuss is about, I use 8 just the same as I do in 98, XP, Vista & 7. I boot up into desktop and if I want to use metro, which I rarely do, it is there.
I have been using 8 with touch screen for nearly a year now and it is the best version yet: stable, fast, smooth and efficient.

Downloaded the tech preview, not impressed. 8.1 gives me what I want, 10 is just fluff I don't need, don't want.

Since PureBasic does not support the development of pure Metro apps, this change is very pertinent here. Now that all apps, Metro or legacy, would run in conventional windows on the desktop, the differentiation is essentially eliminated. Except for the live tiles feature of course, which is (as yet) not supported in PureBasic.

I just recently made the move to Linux (Debian with KDE).
When I have several computers Windows is just too expensive (if I want to stay legal), and with the poorly decisions regarding Windows 8 I have lost all my faith in Microsoft. I hope there will come a day where 50% of laptops are sold with Linux, and I do believe that there are big companies that will eventually make that happen. Every big serious business are moving away from it as well as most hardcore developers. Bye bye Windows!

That page you just linked to is somewhat questionable.

My question is, what comprises "all operating systems"?
If it's not just desktops, but all computers, then that 62% seems to me to be a tad bit high.

The word is that MicroSoft didn't actually skip 9.

It's pretty clear that MS is not making a mobile version of Windows because they want to be in the mobile market, but because they cannot afford for The Mobile OS (Android) to start eroding their market.

I think it's more like M$ has to be very much a part of the big brother establishment.

"Examples of data we collect include your name, email address, preferences and interests; browsing, search and file history; phone call and SMS data; device configuration and sensor data; and application usage."

Microsoft provided four examples, one of which clearly states that when entering text into any application, Microsoft may collect those typed characters. Why? So that the company can fine-tune the spell check and auto-complete features. Again, the Technical Preview is not ideal on machines used for everyday purposes unless users don't care about this "character collection."
