I thought this was a spambot, but then I saw your name :D

Hmm, interesting story. I don´t understand, why they gave him coins instead of a check?!

Every customer of that company should leave it and get other insurance.
That's just disgusting behavior. Who knows who'll they do it to, next?

I am sure there is some reason for it.
No word from the company why they did it in the text.
I guess the man had false claims and the company lost anyway. No campany is doing that without a reason, it's business suicide.

The reason was he accused one of their staff of abusing him.
He wins the case, and they pay with coins. Petty and immature.

It's all over several news sites, so I doubt it's a hoax.

An attempt to be petty by the ins. co execs. It happens from time to time. Fails though, as the laws in all countries limit the amounts that debts can be paid in coins. Their payment won't be legal. Which raises an interesting point, the fellow could keep the coins and only consider the limit amount paid, demanding the rest in a new payment. More than one judge would find in his favor, believe me. Jurists love nothing better than to stick it to people who've demonstrated contempt for a judicial decision along with a penchant for assholery* .

*Assholery: a word that will appear in Oxford and Webster within 2 years, Scrabble Dictionary within 5. (Newfoundland & Labrador: Arseholery) The French will be confounded for 200 years before a tiny sliver of light begins to play on the meaning. Germany, 600. The Netherlands, nether. (sorry Wilbert!)

No flames please, just talking amongst myself and having a little fun

One comment I saw on a website was that he should declare
that they short-changed him by $1000 and make them count
it all again in front of an independent witness. I would.
