radeon 9100 video card?

Post by Dreglor »

my card (radeon 9100) seams to have alot of incompatablitays when it comes to games but when i look at teh "surrported cards" list both 9200 and 9000 are surrported perfectly fine... i don't see them selling the 9100 any more was there something i missed?

i also found a intresting thing about the card, the vpu is runing a high speed (for this card ...) it running at 350mhz which is only 50mhz lower than my dad's radeon 9800se

I just bought a Visiontek Radeon 9100 and downloaded the latest drivers which is suppose to solve alot of the problems so to say. I haven't had any problems with the games I played so far. Seems like you can still buy the 9100 just about anywhere. I think ATI.com has knocked it off in a way so they can focus on there DX9 cards. Won't be long and you won't see the 9200 on there site as well.

The only DX9 game I've tried so far is Need for Speed Underground and it seems to work fine. What games are you having problems with? If you tell me, maybe I can find the demo for them and see if I have the same issues.

halo is my biggest problem (and the demo has the same problems)

things like texture corruption
random lockups
and radom resets
i would be playing along and then it reboots... big problem, lots of corruption trying to finish the game which i finnally did

duex ex 2 (aka invisable war it also the demo :/) i can't get it to finshish loading filckers like it switching ressoultions and then quites no matter whats the setting

these are the only dx9 programs i have... i try looking for some dx9 examples maybe i find somthing around there...

Yes I'm getting alot of errors now that I'm trying other games. It's not just direct x either, opengl does the same. After reading other forums and what not, it's seems to be more then the 9100. I think I'm going back to nvidia. Never had issues with my geforce 2 or heard of any other nvidia problems. This sucks since I just bought mine.

Thanks, but I think I've found a fix. So far, so good, anyway. If not this time, then I am going back to nvidia.

Here's what I did.

1.) Go here and get this to clear out any nvidia registries. Click the button on the top left to find old reg, then click the fix button.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2048.html
Then restart

2.) Get this as well to make sure your old nvidia and ati drivers are completely deleted ( I go into safe mode when doing this one)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3214.html

3.) Go to ati.com and get the latest driver as of 12-17-03 (I think)

On one of the games I was testing, the textures would be missing or flicker. This fix, corrected it. Hope this does the same for you. :D

raedon has notoriously for me been a pain. my old 8500 128 meg card was ehhhh--ok. nothing spectacular. agp 4x, good system bus. but it never was exceptional. the architecture they use on the raedon series i think, (not totally sure) doesnt allocate memory as correctly as it should. even with such a high bus rate as the 9100 series, i think if the memory isnt allocated right, the card wont render images in the EXACT timing, and while the processor is running the EXE commands, it might get slightly ahead of the output of the card. what is your processor speed, and what is the system bus on your motherboard. when i was a chemical engineer, and in my neuroscience lab now, we use an axiocam digital camera for imaging, and the graphics card got way bogged down with the 3900x3900 images, while the processor blazed with lightning speed. RESULT: freeze with images not written to hard drive. my advice, try and take it back, the money you spent on that could get you an nVIDIA gforce 5600 with 256 meg DDR and an insane bus rate. since i got that card, i have tried to slow it down on purpose, and cannot. i took 4500x4500 images, ran them through a filter on my AMD 2800 and 1.5 gigs of DDR ram, ran them again trough another filter, and inverted(mirrored) them. took all of about 15 sec if that.

Code: Select all

!.WHILE status != dwPassedOut
! Invoke AllocateDrink, dwBeerAmount
!MOV Mug, Beer
!Invoke Drink, Mug, dwBeerAmount
!.endw

I have a Pent. 3 850mhz and my FSB is 100. Not the fatest comp but it serves it purpose for now.

I got my Visiontek ATI 9100 for $42, I don't think I can get that geforce you're talking about.

Since I fixed my issues with it, I'm happy now. Faster then my Geforce2 and it has DirectX 8.1 support. When I get a new comp, I'll upgrade to one of the NVidia DX9 cards.

I've used both Nvidia and ATI cards for many years. I currently have a Radeon 9700 and it's easily the best card I've owned. Compatible with everything I've played on it for over a year now. You're all set for Doom III with this baby. I just wanted to offer that I've had great luck with both ATI and Nvidia cards. You basically get what you pay for although once in a while there's lots of power to be had for little coin (e.g. Radeon 9500 Pro last year).
