Installing PureBasic 5.22 on Linux Mint 17 / Ubuntu Trusty T

Post by Mimo el Gato »

Good evening

I have formerly installed successfully PureBasic 5.22 LTS 64 bits on Ubuntu 12.04 (Unity) as well as Linux Mint Cinnamon versions 15 and 16 on 64 bits systems, following the procedure indicated in the package and using the checkinstall script, this was straightforward and no pbm at all after invoking apt as sudo, as indicated by the script.
BUT I passed the same PC to 14.04 Ubuntu (unity), reinstalled my copy of PB.5.22, using the same procedure, then surprise: the checkinstall script this time ansered that it was not finding some of the dependencies. As I do not like Ubuntu at all, I downloaded and installed a very fresh copy of Linux Mint Cinnamon 17 RC 64 bits, again pushed to setup PureBasic 5.22 64 bits, and obtained the same answers from the shell script. As a result, I installed one by one all the dependencies by the mean of Mint's software manager (as I id with Ubuntu a few hours ago, Synaptic did not know any one of these dependencies, but at the end of the day I got installed manually all but 2 of them: libgnomeprint2.2-dev and libgnomeprintui2.2-dev.
As all my other softwares are installed, the system is running OK, but only this problem remains to date.
Has somebody an idea about how to get these 2 libraries, as I searched on google but what I found was not compatible with the system version. Is there a ppa or a repository where I can find these 2 missings ?
I would highly appreciate for an answer to help me to solve this problem. I think this may lead to problems of compatibility of compiled software in the future with the newest versions of Linux...

Best regards

These libs are old, and we need to rework the printer lib for new linux distro, but unfortunately it's not as easy as it sounds, as it doesn't fit with the current PB commandset. So we are investigating. These libs are only required if you need the printer lib, you can ignore them else.

multi-platform library of the formation of ODF/PDF would solve the problems of interaction with the physical printer

Buenos días
I think there is no immediate solution, it was important as I developed an interface to a telecom security chain which is installed and running on a regional telecom supervision system. The purpose of the program is to log an alarm loop, print an order of intervention on the spot for an engineer to dispatch a technical team, log and report the end of alarm and file the failure and solution found by te technicians in a nationwide database in Lima. The software (and related acquisition hardware) work now since 6 months 24/24 and was validated for further deployment.
Shame on me, 2 years ago, I pushed this customer to remove his (not very legal) windows systems (we are in Peru) in favor of Linux Cinnamon 13 LTS, arguing about the stability issues and legality, which has proven to be right until now.
Luckily I anticipated the customer's next move to Mint 17, and I will retain the Customer to move (Mint 13 has still about 3 years of LTS) as it is not a death or life matter, or at least until a solution is found to this problem to recompile the program under Mint 17. I just hope there will not be a hardware failure forcing them to acquire too recent hardware.

Re: Installing PureBasic 5.22 on Linux Mint 17 / Problem sol

Good afternoon to all

The problem was solved today morning thanks to the Mint17 Fr forum where I posted a request for solution.
In the case anybody else is confronted to this problem, it is simple to solve:
You must add the following repository to the current list of repositories of Mint:
" deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu precise main universe ", then update your list of repositories and lauch Fred's script.
You can replace mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu by any of the ones listed on the list of the page.
The complete list of possible repositories for these libs is at:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/amd6 ... v/download

The problem is that those libraries are now old (12.04 /Mint 13 Maya), and >I am fearing that one day they will definitely deprecate them or some of their dependencies, which will lead to a true problem for PB/linux users.

Thanks to all and best regards

Good morning
No pbm, collaboration must function in the 2 ways, from this depends also the quality and good reputation of a product.

@Luis,
Good afternoon,
Sorry, I just went to see your link, which answers all the pBm. I did not see it at all when seeking, I got the same infos on the Linux Mint forum.
It is not that evident to find the right thread in the right time on any forum now.

When I performed the instals on Ubuntu 12.x an 13.x as well as Mint, we did not see that problem at all as I think the repository links were right positioned and applying the recommendation issued by the script was straiforward, but this was different this time with the instals of 14.04 based systems. I do not know why, but it seems (and I was told too) that number of libraries are on the way of deprecation and possibly moving onto other repositories. Is this true, I do not know, but it may become a problem in the future.
Best regards and thank You
