I just remembered this

i was hoping it would be fixed for 5.21 but apparently the bug still exists :(

Two reasons. For years it was because of licensing issues, with the copyright holder asserting its rights on the format. Fred won't touch something like that with a ten-foot pole. After that was resolved and people using the gif format could again breathe easy, it was decided that the format was too outdated to invest much time and resources on. It really isn't an easy thing to add to a language. UseGIFDecoder() springs instantly to mind but all the other Use commands produce an image. A gif file is much more than an image and an object would have to be designed and several commands written to manipulate its data and properties. No quick or simple thing to knock off in a day or two. All in all I don't expect to see it in the foreseeable future based on the total body of communications from the executive suites high atop Fantaisie Towers over the past 8 years or so.

Unfortunately, based on testing from Wilbert, I'll have to take Mac OS X off the masthead for now. Maybe in future it will be more compatible. A bit frustrating because it *should* work based on the docs for all commands used. But the Mac version of PB doesn't see a fraction of the testing that the Windows version does, so that's probably part of it. So far so good on Linux afaik.

In the 1975 television show Kung Fu, the lead character was Kwai Chang Caine, who had entered the Shao Lin temple as a young boy. His favourite teacher there was blind. When they first met, Master Po asked the young boy, "what do you hear?" and didn't get a satisfactory answer. He then said, "do you hear the grasshopper at your feet?" and young Kwai Chang looked down to see that there was indeed a grasshopper down at his feet. Master Po laughed at his amazement, and from then on his favourite name for young Kwai Chang was "grasshopper".

Dropping a file onto the gadget should be no problem, I'll see if I can get that in for the next update.

btw, Fred wants to keep the forums about PureBasic. Posting pictures of hot babes making selfies at their computers will just get everyone all distracted...
