Wrong Compiler Response.

I just did the upgrade to Windows 8.1 (for various reasons) and as expected, some things got killed. Among them, PureBasic 5.11X86.

I get a "Wrong Compiler Response." when starting it.

1. I uninstalled it. Deleted the preferences directory.
2. I reinstalled it.
3. PB offers to let me start it after the install and it works fine.
4. When I exit PB and restart it subsequently, I get "Wrong Compiler Response." again.

No amount of installing/uninstalling works.

Now what do I do??? (Maybe I should just not turn the computer off and leave pb running 24 hours a day).

Great idea, thanks. I usually run Comodo but it got nobbled by win 8.1 and I am not sure if defender is running as win8 says it isn't but you never know with these upgrades. Comodo says only the firewall component isn't working so I am letting windows firewall take over for now.

Hmm, maybe Comodo is damaged enough to nobble it...Have to see what I can do about it.

Thanks IdeasVacuum, found the culprit.

Windows Defender isn't running but a slightly mangled Comodo Security Suite is.

The upgrade to Win 8.1 trashed it partially and that also trashed some of the settings that had allowed pb to run (that I forgot).

Adding the PB folders to some exclusion zones in the software has cured this problem.

I don't understand Comodo, they've had simply ages to make their suite properly compatible, even advertise it as such, but it isn't. Just been reading of win 8.1 complaints in their forums.

...well, they maybe haven't had that long to get things right because Microsoft keep moving the goal posts. Good that you are up and running again.
