While searching for some information I stumbled onto a nice relief map shader. Which only took a short while to implement. :D
Here's a picture showing it.

You'll notice that it's very similar to parallax occlusion mapping. Bad news is the edges are a little more jagged, but good news is it has shadow support. :D
I plan on posting a tutorial on how to use this shader in the next day or two.
Personally, I think this is an excellent shader and I'm considering using this one over the parallax shader.
If you still want POM don't worry. I still plan on finishing it up. It just might take a while.

@Samuel:
Nice :)
Yeah, the edges are as worse (or worser?)as the edges of POM... Shadows are pixelated :D
It would be nice if you could post both, the Relief Map and POM (POM later).
I want to use POM or so for many Objects... Is there any Problem with POM? I mean velocity of render or similar and power consumption...

I plan on posting both. I have a three problems left with POM.
Setting up OpenGL support. Fixing a graphic bug that seems to appear on more rounded surfaces and little bug dealing with specular lighting.
I at least want to fix the graphic and specular bugs before posting it.

The speed of POM is going to depend on your graphics card. So, it's hard for me to say if it will be slow for you.

The relief mapping will be posted before POM will be finished. If your willing to give it a try I think the relief map will be a good test for your project.
From what I can tell relief mapping uses about the same amount of power as POM does. So, if you can run the relief at a good speed. You shouldn't have any problem
with Parallax Occlusion Mapping.
Plus if you haven't worked with them before. You can get some practice with normal height maps.

I will look on Relief Mapping and use it. Perhaps it´s all I want and I won´t use POM :D
You´re right, some practice should not be a bad thing. Do you post how to bake/make a normal height map, too?
