It's hard to say. I mean, what happens if I use someones calculator to calculate my dosage, but then I die?

On the other hand, I should have received proper dosage instructions from my doctor - so why would I be using one?


Who is liable if someone dies because an app gave them incorrect information? Much more so if it was a doctor using the app to make the calculation during an emergency?

I think these apps should be available for trained medical professionals, if they find them useful. But I think they need to come from a certified and recognizable entity, at least in some kind of endorsement form.. i.e A developer partners with the A.M.A to develop an app for doctors, and the A.M.A and developer both approach Apple and say "we've got this app we'd like to publish and it was developed in relationship with the AMA and they have nothing but great things to say about it".

I think that should be OK. But I'm not so sure about just any developer being able to throw together a calculator with a pretty GUI and sell it. But I do not like the idea of restricting it to the drug manufacturers... For one they would probably just sell it for an exorbitant price, and also they would have complete control over access to such information. We've all taken meds where the doc says "you really only need to take half of this" etc.. Here comes X manufacturer with X app saying "THIS is the established dosage, its correct, you should take the whole thing!" simply to sell more doses or w/e.

The apps are for Doctors, and (in theory) only Doctors have access to the medicine and equipment such as drip feeds etc anyway......

...Apple were very dependent on Samsung components to make the first iPhone! iPhone 5 still includes Samsung components. To stay in the race, Apple will probably have to adopt 5G in the future - courtesy of Samsung again.

Apple was not at all original with the iPhone. I can't even think of one original piece of hardware that Apple has crapped out.

Apple doesn't create. It standardizes, popularizes, and catapults the value into an unwarranted stratosphere of price ranges.

Apple hasn't truly innovated anything since the original Apple Computer imho. That's all I can say.

I still grit me teeth when I see mindless weebles posting on the Internet, or mentioning on talk shows, what a great one of a kind "inventor" Steve Jobs was. At best he was an innovator, but he was still just a glorified business suit.

Some examples ... a gui based OS, the iPhone / iPad, removal of disk drives, high resolution screens.

Personally I like the idea of the app store.
Without one, at lot of apps might never have existed.
I agree Apple is very restrictive in what it allows and I would have liked them to be more flexible.

Jobs genius was in taking credit for others innovations and the 'gui based OS' is the prime example.

I think that's a bit of a stretch.. While people have most certainly, in error attributed the idea of a GUI to Jobs, just as I am sure many have done with Microsoft / Gates, I don't think I've ever seen either of them actually try to claim they came up with the idea.

What they did was make it practical and appealing and reasonable to implement to a large user base, and for a relatively lower cost than it had probably been done in the past.

A GUI just makes sense. It is a naturally evolution of interfacing with electronic instruments of all kinds. It's like arguing whole invented the wheel first, when it should really be: Who made the best looking, popular wheel.

Then you weren't paying attention - Apple sued Microsoft (unsuccessfully) accusing Gates of stealing the gui idea from him.

Jobs was the P.T. Barnum of the computer age.

Microsoft's user base was 10 times that of Apple and PCs cost about 1/3 of what Macs sold for.
