Please read this - I hope someone reading this and involved with PB will help on the problem I have.
I have recently (about one month ago) discovered PureBasic (Professional Edition) into the software section of a local software store. Bought it right away and went back home to try it. After install, i was unhappy to see that the version was older - 3.10 built in 2002.
Anyway - I went to the PB site and it saw that I should be eligible to upgrade to the most recent version 3.80. I downloaded it and tried to run. At that point it said to me that I do not have the Datakey file so i should request it to support@purebasic.com. Which i did right away - sent an email to support@purebasic.com and requested my datakey.
Well, the main problem is that I received no answer whatsoever to that email, and long time passed since then. I could have emailed the other addresses (coders and such) but I did not, as i think they may be busy coding rather than answering to me on a matter that isn't a coding problem; so i did not know what to do next.
Please advise and comment... Am I or not, eligible to upgrade on a product i paid for, as stated on the website? If so, how can i get my datakey? For more information, the PB CD i have is manufactured in Netherlands and has the labels of Fantaisie Software, Master Creating and Xing Interactive which seems to be the reseller. I hope someone from PB reads this and solves my problem. Thanks anyway for reading this - looking forward to reading all your comments...

You must buy the DataKey. It costs 39 Euro. You can buy it on http://www.purebasic.com/ordering.php3 . When you got it, you can Update it everytime.

You are right - thanks for the information. At least i know what the options are now. However i'm not able to do that - because from my region i can't use the options for offline ordering like eurocheques; i can however use a bank transfer - but it would cost me more than actually purchasing a separate full package using the online option.
So i guess i just have to throw this away and buy it online.

If you can buy the full version online then you can just buy the upgrade - the online ordering looks the same to me..

now why wasnt the datakey included in the original package? i thought if you bought PB you got free updates. so ill assume thats true only if you buy it from the website? i think it should just be consistent however it works. i bought one software from a company from the store and still got all the updates, and then bought some more software from the same company from the inernet, and got free updates for that too. just my opinion, but consistency probably works best.

Ive done the very same thing. I bought a boxed version from a store here in Australia. The boxed version mentions nothing about it being a limited version. Am I to believe that I have now got to pay more money to get a datakey so that I can upgrade to the latest version??
Please clarify this for me because if that is the case I will be taking the boxed version back to the store and getting a refund.

What you buy online has unlimited updates included, the boxed versions from
the stores have not. (at least, that's how it is here in germany). That is,
because they are cheaper than the online bought versions.
You can buy the update right for a boxed version online as well
( http://www.purebasic.com/ordering.php3 ).
Boxed version + update cost a little more than the online version, so i advice
everybody to go directly for the online version. But the differences are not
that big (5-10€ here i think, depends on the boxed price).
If i were you, i'd try to get a refund, and then buy online from http://www.purebasic.com/
That's the best (and cheapest) way.

The version in the box in Australia is also as mentioned above ver 3.10 which is from 2002. I have taken it back and got a refund. I dont think I'll bother with purebasic at all now. The posts about the delayed reply times and incomplete online ordering system has put me off a little. How the resellers can get away with not stating on the box that its basically a demo your buying for 40 euros $70 AUD is unbelievable, the vendor also agreed with this and had no problems giving the refund. Any how thanks for the prompt reply, the forums here seem very helpfull and full of great info. Shame some money hungry reseller spoiled the product for me.
It is a shame, as PB is a great product. As to the incomplete ordering system - I ordered mine problem free about a year ago and I don't think Fred has changed the system since then..
