Ribbon
When in PureBasic will support interface Ribbon? I would like to have a library Ribbon with the functions of CreateRibbon(), AddRibbonTab (), etc.
Re: Ribbon
if you really need that, you can try Delphi(2009+)

Re: Ribbon
I was going to say that I agree, the editor should have a ribbon like in Microsoft Office 2007.

Re: Ribbon
The editor? No way! I'd rather go back to Visual Basic than see that abomination in PureBasic.
Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.

Re: Ribbon
I used to have a ribbon bar in my program until someone pointed out that Microsoft have copyright over the design. So I changed my menu bar design and dropped the word 'ribbon' from my documentation. I understand that MS have subsequently relaxed their conditions and you can now sign up for a license (free).

Re: Ribbon
Good idea. Optional switch between old style menu+toolbar and ribbon or at least toolbar with bigger icons (32x32).Kruno wrote:I was going to say that I agree, the editor should have a ribbon like in Microsoft Office 2007.
Required for future... with touch displays everywhere.
Original request about Ribbon library: Could be useful.
If you don't like it, you don't need to give it to your customers, it's just a library you could use instead old menu+toolbar.
Of course a touch input library is required too. Most new devices/displays have 10 point touch input...

I hate that damned ribbon, since the introduction of the ribbon about every action in Excel takes one or two additional clicks...
I wouldn't mind slightly larger icons, though.
As for touch... coding on a TOUCH screen? Are you serious?

Re: Ribbon
Personally I like the ribbon concept. I like it in office and I like it in some other applications and it helps me a lot as I'm just a casual office user. I know pretty well how to use office but there are some functions I can find easier with ribbons. However I'd never want to have an IDE using ribbons, it's just tedious. Use ribbons where it makes sense, don't use them where it doesn't.

A Ribbon is really non-intuitive to use. Unfortunately, at office i have to use them
I am lucky that they don't exist in Linux

Re: Ribbon
I use Word/Powerpoint daily (on OSX), and ribbons are much better in my opinion, makes everything quicker to create - for me at least!
Re: Ribbon
IMO, ribbons aren't any more unintuitive (or intuitive for that matter) than cascading menus. The main difference for me is that ribbons take up a lot more vertical screen space. Unless you fold them of course.
