All Microsoft consumer OSes after ME have been based on the NT kernel,
but I believe that NT, and its replacement 2000 (2-17-2000),
were marketed and intended strictly as business enterprise solutions.
Windows ME (9-14-2000) was the recommended "consumer" user desktop at the time.

So if you consider my list was of the "consumer" operating systems,
and that 2000 is not on the list for a reason,
do you see any pattern MachineCode?

I'm even going to extend the list a bit to see if you can detect the pattern.

As soon as they decide that they need to better support Windows 7 and need to back off their misguided Windows 8 emphasis.
Even if I could afford a new computer, I'd buy used to obtain Windows 7 and to avoid Windows 8.

Start button to switch easier to the new fullscreen start menu by using the mouse pointing device, no old style start menu from what I read.
Not necessarily by default. Could be optional setting. From what I read only for Pro and Enterprise versions, means targeting companies and power user.

Rumours. Microsoft Germany said the start button will come back... it was an April Fool's joke.

There will be no classic start menu in Windows ever again (Redmond has made this clear). They added a "applications" circle to the start menu, below where your desktop tile would normally be by default. This is only enabled during mouse interaction.

Which brings you to the applications interface that looks sorta like the "All Apps" interface plus a search bar (this is from a older leak, the button icon is suppose to be a up arrow).

It does look kinda like crap in these screens, but that's only because he's showing off the new capabilities of the new OS. Tiles can be re-sized small/big as exampled with the mail app in the first screen. Other than the interface (which I think is great) the OS is quite impressive. I've downloaded virus's and ran them with no effect on the system at all, the new UAC is quite strong (it protects more than just C:\Windows on Windows . I'm not a big fan of the whole cloud computing deal, with Microsoft pushing to store user data onto their cloud. If they did away with that, then Windows 8 would be simply amazing.

I really don't understand how they managed to make something so simple look so ugly. The design and colors are terrible IMO.
