Windows 8.1 (Windows Blue)
Ho ho, sounds like the Start Button and Desktop are back by default for desktop PCs/Laptops.

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.

M$ has always been a bit slow. Windows 9 should be da bomb!
They'll recover a bit, but they'll never dominate the globe like in the past.

No, only as hardware-button, MS will make some money with Start ButtonIdeasVacuum wrote:Ho ho, sounds like the Start Button and Desktop are back by default for desktop PCs/Laptops.

Windows Blue To Go is implemented in the button!

Old bugs good, new bugs bad! Updates are evil: might fix old bugs and introduce no new ones.

Re: Windows 8.1 (Windows Blue)
if they made 3 more buttons with the other colours in their logo they could recreate the game simon!

Windows 2000 is missing, so no pattern exists.heartbone wrote:Is it just me, or does anyone else notice a pattern?

Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.

I only listed products intended for the "consumer" market.MachineCode wrote:Windows 2000 is missing, so no pattern exists.heartbone wrote:Is it just me, or does anyone else notice a pattern?
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_2000
Windows 2000 is a continuation of the Microsoft Windows NT family of operating systems, replacing Windows NT 4.0.
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_NT
Windows NT is a family of operating systems produced by Microsoft, the first version of which was released in July 1993. It was a powerful high-level-language-based, processor-independent, multiprocessing, multiuser operating system with features comparable to Unix. It was intended to complement consumer versions of Windows that were based on MS-DOS. NT was the first fully 32-bit version of Windows, whereas its consumer-oriented counterparts, Windows 3.1x and Windows 9x, were 16-bit/32-bit hybrids.
All Microsoft consumer OSes after ME have been based on the NT kernel,
but I believe that NT, and its replacement 2000 (2-17-2000),
were marketed and intended strictly as business enterprise solutions.
Windows ME (9-14-2000) was the recommended "consumer" user desktop at the time.
So if you consider my list was of the "consumer" operating systems,
and that 2000 is not on the list for a reason,
do you see any pattern MachineCode?
I'm even going to extend the list a bit to see if you can detect the pattern.
Windows 3.1x
Windows 95
Windows 98 SE
Windows ME
Windows XP (SP3)
Windows Vista
Windows 7 SP?
Windows 8
As soon as they decide that they need to better support Windows 7 and need to back off their misguided Windows 8 emphasis.tj1010 wrote:Now,,, when will sense kick in and service-packs be put back?
Even if I could afford a new computer, I'd buy used to obtain Windows 7 and to avoid Windows 8.
Keep it BASIC.
Re: Windows 8.1 (Windows Blue)
Start button to switch easier to the new fullscreen start menu by using the mouse pointing device, no old style start menu from what I read.IdeasVacuum wrote:Ho ho, sounds like the Start Button and Desktop are back by default for desktop PCs/Laptops.
Not necessarily by default. Could be optional setting. From what I read only for Pro and Enterprise versions, means targeting companies and power user.
Rumours. Microsoft Germany said the start button will come back... it was an April Fool's joke.

Watching Windows weekly 308 now.
Microsoft's Windows 8 Plan B(lue): Bring back the Start button, boot to desktop:
"Until it ships, anything can change," said my source, who requested anonymity.
Re: Windows 8.1 (Windows Blue)
There will be no classic start menu in Windows ever again (Redmond has made this clear). They added a "applications" circle to the start menu, below where your desktop tile would normally be by default. This is only enabled during mouse interaction.
(you can see it under the photos tile in this screen of the latest 8.1 leak)

Which brings you to the applications interface that looks sorta like the "All Apps" interface plus a search bar (this is from a older leak, the button icon is suppose to be a up arrow).

Man that looks like crap. Definitely no Windows 8 for me. Mac or Linux next.

Re: Windows 8.1 (Windows Blue)
It does look kinda like crap in these screens, but that's only because he's showing off the new capabilities of the new OS. Tiles can be re-sized small/big as exampled with the mail app in the first screen. Other than the interface (which I think is great) the OS is quite impressive. I've downloaded virus's and ran them with no effect on the system at all, the new UAC is quite strong (it protects more than just C:\Windows on WindowsMachineCode wrote:Man that looks like crap. Re: Windows 8.1 (Windows Blue)
I really don't understand how they managed to make something so simple look so ugly. The design and colors are terrible IMO.

No, it looks older, like Windows 2.5 from 80's last century where you had 8 colors only (monochrome!).spacebuddy wrote:Metro looks like something that was created 10 years ago.![]()
As soon you do it right, it works !
