I was with vodahost for many years. 8 bucks a month for unlimited disk space and unlimited data transfer. Highly recommended, top quality tech support. The servers were never down.

@Nituvious
There was a real spam post before "nospam" posted his idea of a noteworthy hosting service. ;)
If any of you native English speakers have any suggestions for the above text, please let me know (via PM). Thanks!

I've been a customer of Lunarpages for many years.

Been very happy with them. I must have switched web hosts half a dozen times before I finally found/settled on them, and they have been good to me. Very few problems over the years, and always good support when I sent in Tickets. I register my domain thry GoDaddy, though.

Even the most basic plan should provide you with the storage space and bandwidth you need... Aside from that I always caution people away from any company selling "unlimited" space/bandwidth - I don't know if LP does it as I haven't looked at their sales page in a while, but most companies that do usually have some clause about using server resources (shared hosting) that they can invoke to kick high traffic/CPU sites off, or force to upgrade to a higher premium..

Never had an issue with that from LP though, I think one month I even used as much as 20GB of bandwidth (a lot for me).

000webhost and Byethost are the best. I use free hosting with my domain cause I don't need much bandwidth or storage. These are the only ones with acceptable uptime and that don't ban me for my contact form PHP, which only processes a POST and has reCaptcha...

Byethost has been hosting my automated link exchange for years too with no complaints...

P.S.: I've been looking for one stable like those two but has shared SSL...

I suggest staying far away from 000webhosting. I had a small project hosted there that I intended to have for a long time when out of no where they deleted my website completely. No emails, not warnings, no notifications at all. Just straight up deleted the site.

When I emailed them their "volunteer customer service" told me that no reason was given in their logs. Come to find out that their "volunteer customer service" are people from the internet who volunteer because of some perks to their own web space.

Trashy company, you're better off with any other host. If anyone is interested, I can provide a link to the host I use. It's rather good, and I've used them for several years now.
However, if anyone is truly interested in running their own website I would suggest buying a vps or similar. That way you can have the most control over what you're paying for. They can also be really cheap.

You can probably still FTP and get a HTTP response on the sub-domain. They really are one of the top free hosts, others just wipe everything without warning and give frequent 500 errors... Byethost is the only other I've seen that doesn't and I've tried over a dozen from review statistics.

Most review site high on the Google index actually have botted stats or are based on a couple days experience reviewers. The #1 free host mentioned on most of those sites(helios) is actually famous for extremely frequent 500 errors and wiping accounts and data for little resource usage...

I wish I was clueless and there was actually better free hosting, there may be where there is banner supported..

The site was completely removed, including FTP access. I was told by the customer service that I would have to recreate the domain if it wasn't already taken.

On another note, I haven't ever seen a review praising 000webhost. Most of them list a lot of aggravating nuisances with the host and provide alternative options.

Helios has #1 rank on those sites with mostly positive reviews, off high-index review sites it's famous for giving 500 errors every other request and banning people with custom scripts, and php that contains external resources like reCaptcha. I used it for a week, I got 500 errors almost every query and withing 5 days got everything deleted and account locked. Reviews mean nothing...

Notice how nobody can recommend a better free host than the two I mentioned...
