Forum enhancement: Bug sections

Post by bamsagla »

Hi @all,

last three weeks i was at vacation and didn't check forums and also didn't recognize the new betas for 5.10.
Now I saw the new beta at the customer area and then took a look at the bug sections on the forum to see which bugs are still known and present at 5.10 current beta.

And at this place I came up with an idea for the beta sections. If you take a look to the bug sections, the [Done] and undone bugs are all together. And in my opinion the [Done] bugs are also very usefull to see changes or problems at last development versions.

But I would really enjoy additional new forum indexes for "Done Windows Bugs", "Done Linux Bugs" and so on. Because then anyone can easily take a look at all open bug reports and can also view the last [Done] bugs. So every [Done] bug could be moved to the corresponding "Done"-index after completion.

Some time ago I read about a bugtracker or some other possibilities to make bugreports more easy and viewable. The developers weren't really glad about those things. But I think separate indexes for open and done bugs would be a great enhancement.

So this is only a suggestion... Don't know if anyone else would find this useful. Maybe even the developers could get a better view for open bugs...

Thanks to the team for your great work on PureBasic and greetings to the nice and helpful community.

...I think that once a few hundred bugs are in a 'done' section, any perceived benifit will be lost in that mountain. When searching the forum by subject, I and many others use a Google Local Search - it's very efficient and most times you wil find what you are looking for - sometimes it will be in a part of the forum you don't normally visit.

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.

One problem is that when a bug is marked 'done' sometimes the reporters have to come back and say 'still not working here' and it has to be revisited. If it was in a different forum now for being marked 'done' it would have to be moved back and then moved again when the fix is complete. It's just going to add up to a lot of moving imho when the devs have better things to do.

Thanks for your opinions. The main problem I tried to explain is the listing of the forum section, where done and undone bugs are a wild bunch.

@IdeasVacuum: Thanks for the hint with Goggle Local Search - I will give it a try.

@netmaestro: On other bug reporting pages there is a simple solution for that. Once the report is marked done and (with the same action probably) moved to the done-Section and you feel the bug was not solved at all - you simply create a new entry at the bug section by explaining even better or specially defining what's not working with a link to the original bug report inside the done section. Sounds difficult but it's not a bigger act than before, only with a separation of the bug reports.

@all: I really don't want to say that my suggestion is the only true and possible way. It was just and no more than an idea. If no-one really likes it or the admins and devs aren't happy, don't mind. It's just because (as I already mentioned) I read a forum thread once before where the possibility of a bug tracker was discussed. Additionally a link to the thread I found again: http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... ing+system (has been a while since last post on this thread, sorry to warm up this entry with a new discussion).

all 'done' bug are moved when the final is out, so hopefully, there is not that much remaining at one time (5.10 did have many bug reports, it's not always the case).
