Want to buy Pure basic...But no documentation or tutorials
You're right - I did read your post wrong at first! That came from a conversation I just had with another person on IRC that was saying PB wasn't viable for commercial applications and I guess I just couldn't stop talking!
Regardless.. I wouldn't call it a hobby project for Fred per se- just because he doesn't spend all his time on it doesn't mean he's not taking it seriously.. I'd say if it were a hobby he'd have released it as freeware and we'd still be sitting at version 2.x

I think everyone beat this topic to death and enjoyed it so much we all got side tracked. I also think everyone agrees some more BASIC tutorials and clearer documentation would be very much appreciated by people that have just purchased PB. So if their is anyway we can help, lets help.

Heh, Im not calling it a hobby for the reasons you mentioned. Im calling it such due to Fred's responses to needed common features, and some non-so-common.Karbon wrote:You're right - I did read your post wrong at first! Shannara: how can you affirm like that that's it's an 'hobby' project for me without knowing how I'm working and managing the PureBasic development ? Did you know I'm running a real company ? That I'm spending more time on PureBasic than on my daily job ? You are of course free to think what you want, but telling such things seems a bit offending to me.
Fred,
Forgive me if my question is out of place, but do you hope to give up the day job one day and make a living from Purebasic?
Does this seem like a practical dream?
I'd love to make a living like this one day. The worrying thing is that if you can't make a living out of a product as good asPurebasic then there really is no hope!

Didn't mean to offend. I know your running a real company due to the payment description on my credit card statementFred wrote:Shannara: how can you affirm like that that's it's an 'hobby' project for me without knowing how I'm working and managing the PureBasic development ? Prime example. When requested for native MDI support, reason? The only way to do MDI right now is with API bloat from Win32. No support for Linux...
Reference: viewtopic.php?t=2361&highlight=mdi
You said you are not doing it. No reason given. Why not? MDI would surely bring more people, especially those who are interested in cross-platform development (not the fake "cross platform" .NET provides). Since there were no reason given, that kinda gives a personal feel. Meaning your not doing it for personal reasons, meaning your not looking to get a bigger userbase, meaning you dont care about making money... thus PB is not anything more then a hobby project

I read all of that from your short replies of "We are not doing it".
Especially when it is a feature needed for most non-game professional programmers.
... Are you serious about PB? A hobby can take more hours then a day job

Sharanna: your example is (bad luck) badly choosen, as if you had took the time to read the previous posts in that thread, you will have seen I was answering to the following ElChoni's question:
But that's not the point.I'm trying to do exactly that (using 3.41 sources), don't know if I'll get it working. Anyway, if Danilo or Fred are doing the same, It would be good to know.
Yes, I am. If you don't believe it, feel free to think it, but don't assert that's it's the case. We've actually added much more functions from user wishes you could ever imagine but you seems to ignore it, may be because you've just joined the community. This thread is going to nowhere as you seem to know more about PureBasic than myself...... Are you serious about PB?
