I'm thinking to get a Windows 8 running or simply buy a new device with Win8 PRO running,
what do you recommend?
I don't want to install it over my current machine, which is XP, showing it's age but I'm still getting used to it.
So I tend to buy a Win8 PRO (NOT RT) Tablet to see what it meant to be, what do you recommend?
Sony VAIO Duo? Which is solid built but expensive.
Acer Iconia W510? A lower spec system with amazing battery life?
Or simply wait for Surface PRO?
Personally I felt WinRT is an area I can't get into as I have too much X86 softwares to use.

A lot depends on how you intend to use the device, how important portability is etc. I'd wait for the Surface PRO to be launched, simply because the OS is implemented by MS themselves, the device is well specified and it will probably be offered at a tempting price (Since the RT version has not enjoyed stunning sales).

There is a choice of covers for the surface - sounds like the Type Cover is best for, erm, typing:
