Do any of you good folk know what is the best (and free) Internet
usage monitor, for an ADSL connection? I have a monthly transfer
limit of 1000 MB, and I've just gone over this, so I need a free
app that will do all the following:
(1) Monitors data sent/received.
(2) Lets me specify my monthly data limit.
(3) Lets me specify a starting date (21st of the month) so that
the limit set in (2) is reset to 0 when that date arrives.
Do any of you have any good recommendations, or, even better, is there
a way to check the data sent/received with PureBasic? That would be
the best solution, actually.

Only 1GB transfer/month, that's not much, what's the price?
Here 10GB limit/month at 40 euro = $40 USD
4-10 Mbit down and 128Kb upload

You don't live in crappy, backwards Australia.
Broadband is still very new here and we pay ridiculous prices.
I have an ADSL connection with 512 kbps down and 128 kbps up,
with 1 GB of data per month. For this I pay AUS $69/month,
which equates to USD $38/month. About the same price as yours,
but only 1/10th of the data.
BTW, thanks to everyone for your replies... I think Bandwidth Monitor
looks the best for my needs. Your help is appreciated... I couldn't
find anything suitable when searching Google.
UPDATE: Bandwidth Monitor is pretty crappy... doesn't recognize my
ADSL modem at all, and keeps wanting to reboot and run some service.
The copyright date on it is 2000 so I think it isn't XP compatible.
I'm now testing DU Meter instead and it seems to be working okay so
far... and didn't even need to reboot after installing!
Thanks Bericko!

Re: Best (and free) net usage monitor?
Funny how I stumble across this thread, I had to find a monitor, 12 years later and Australia is still crappy as far as broadband goes, especially if you have to use mobile, $20 for 700mb, stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
I visit a couple of music instrument related web sites and 40mb disappears
, stuff knows what they were sending, no video, no music, just a heap of flashy adds, I am sure I have no auto update set, without my press of the ok button, this has happened a couple of times before, so I need to keep a constant visual track, so I come across the ShaPlus Bandwidth Meter 1.3, simple, but it works good, and it is free.

You won't believe this, but I started using ShaPlus Bandwidth Meter a couple of months ago, too! I also found it to be the best tool in its class.
Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.

You like too MC
, I think these type of programs will come in handy in the near future as the folk of the poorer societies of this world be start using the web much more, as they will only be able to afford a small amount of data. I really cant understand why an increasing amount web sites have to chew up so much bandwidth just bombard people with advertising, most probably the poorly trained web developers of today.

Gawd, that's horrid. 1 Gb is my typical monthly use on mobile. On my fixed line (VDSL) it's more like 1 Gb a day I guess...

Just out of interest how much does it cost for that 1gig for mobile over your way bluez, I have to use mobile for internet where I am, as I have no option for fixed line.Gawd, that's horrid. 1 Gb is my typical monthly use on mobile. On my fixed line (VDSL) it's more like 1 Gb a day I guess...
If I had 1gig a day to play with, I would never get anything else done around here.
