I need to sometimes translate string variables in english to string variables in spanish.
Anyone know of something that will make this possible?
Language Translation Library?
Re: Language Translation Library?
if you just need the translation, why not use something like google translate?

Re: Language Translation Library?
Google translate is a very fine effort, but for the translation of app prompts/hints etc, the results are generally poor.
You can't beat translation by a native speaker - it occurred to me, given that this forum hosts developers from several countries, a special forum page dedicated to translating would be useful to many - add your prompts/hints to a table in your native language and participants enter the translation in their native language. Could it be done?

I like the idea. However,
My app is for my workplace for employees to send notes to each other. Some employees can't read a word of english, so I want my program to translate english notes (sent by various users) sent to those employees to spanish. I know computer translations arent always accurate, but it's still better than sending them something they cant read at all.

Ah, well Google will help there - though it would not be wise if any of the notes were critical, since sometimes a translation can appear to be correct but convey a totally different meaning. I'm surprised there isn't at least one person at your company that is competent in both languages.
If everyone has internet access, your app could have a Google Translate page in a web gadget. Pasting text into the translator editor and copying the resulting translated text could be tricky if that needs to be done programmatically, but that is a task which I think may be suited to AutoIt, and luckily Warmonger has recently written a wrapper for AutoIt: http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... =5&t=49438
-when a note is sent, I'd still send it in English and append the Spanish translation, that will hope those that know a bit of English when the translation does not quite make sense.

We do have fluent bilinguals but they aren't always around to help. Anyway I think I'll just add a button to pop up google translate. They are smart enough to copy / paste and click a button
Long live google...
