Microsoft blocking Linux on ARM devices?
Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories.
Re: Microsoft blocking Linux on ARM devices?
From what I've read, it will be true on oem supplied windows 8 machines, but if you build your own and install win 8 you will have an option to bypass it.
It's supposed to be an anti-piracy measure to prevent the current practice of bypassing the win 8 boot oem key verification by loading info that's supposed to come from the slic table via a linux bootloader.

Because some makers have announced chipsets specifically for Windows 8, I doubt they'll let you buy them separately, so you'll probably be left with some inferior hardware. From what I've read, it will be true on oem supplied windows 8 machines, but if you build your own and install win 8 you will have an option to bypass it.

Well, as someone at Intel once famously said: "What Intel giveth, Microsoft taketh away."Trond wrote:Because some makers have announced chipsets specifically for Windows 8, I doubt they'll let you buy them separately, so you'll probably be left with some inferior hardware.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as build your own for ARM tabletsrsts wrote:From what I've read, it will be true on oem supplied windows 8 machines, but if you build your own and install win 8 you will have an option to bypass it.
I had previously heard this being floated around for PCs, but this article was the first time I heard it being rumored for ARM devices.
