New Hobbit trailer

Post by Blood »

C provides the infinitely-abusable goto statement, and labels to branch to. Formally, the goto is never necessary, and in practice it is almost always easy to write code without it. We have not used goto in this book. -- K&R (2nd Ed.) : Page 65

I've already seen this and am looking forward to the movies though I can't imagine there's enough story to fill three movies unless they go into a lot of detail.

I'm glad Peter Jackson is doing it, when I first heard they were going to make these movies I also heard that someone else would be directing it and I had thought that Jackson had done an excellent job on the Lord of the Rings movies.

I hope I misunderstood you. It will be more then one part? Im really not sure if Im happy with that. Lord of the Rings was really great and had much story to tell, but the hobbit was a book without enough stuff to do more then one film in my opinion.
But I like getting surprised ;)

There will only be two movies. They've also expanded the storyline to include stuff that happened "off-screen" in the book, but only time will tell whether it fits the spirit of Tolkien or not. Still really looking forward to this...

Ah! That sounds a bit more realistic. Somewhere (don't ask me where because it was a while ago) I had read that it would be in three parts and that Peter Jacksohn wasn't directing it. Apparently things have changed or my information source was faulty to begin with.

Originally, Peter Jackson wasn't on board. I can't comment on 2 vs 3 parts. I only ever heard 2 parts. Can't comment on the movies either, as I have never seen them. I love the animated ones from the 70s. However, I did pick up Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy a couple of weeks ago since the DVDs were in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart. $15 for the trilogy, can't beat that price! Just need to find time to watch them.
Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories. ♥️

I don't know.. Generally when you take any book and try to compress it down to 2 hours or less, a LOT of stuff gets cut out.

Even in Lord of the Rings, a LOT of stuff was cut out that people felt was important.. It's kind of like reading a Shakespeare play, and then the performance is missing half the dialogue - why would you do that?

Adapting a book to movie word for word, sure that would be stupid to attempt and nearly impossible. But a lot of good books can easily be spread out to 3 + movies.

Lest we not forget the classic format of the "Mini Series" that we often get on TV from time to time. The original V, comes to mind. Imagine that as a 90 or 120 minute movie :?
