Interesting, but I doubt Fred was using it in that manner.

Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.

I find it impressive whenever anyone is fluent (written or speaking) in more than one language.
In Fred's case as long as he remain fluent in one particular language, PureBasic, we're happy ...

Do you have reason not to? Have you seen his English on his site and other areas, like these forums and PureBasic manual? Not exactly fluent or correct in all places. Like I said, I wasn't trying to offend him, but merely point out what appeared to be incorrect grammar. The fact that it turned out to be a little-used English word from past centuries doesn't exonerate his use of it.Zach wrote:Mayhaps we be taking the language skills a might bit seriously, aye?

Actually somewhen is ok, I know people who use it. It's just a bit unusual is all. If I tried to do much communicating in French (or German for that matter, even though I studied both in school for years), people would by turns squint at me, laugh and occasionally punch me in the face. Kudos to Fred for his English skills, they are really quite understandable. Freak too, I know nothing of his background but his english is excellent.

Seems me jest flew over ye head. oi, poor lad

Anyway. I may find it annoying when I run across grammar and spelling errors in documentation, but I tend to put it into perspective as well. He's French. I've met and seen plenty of people who completely butcher the English language, and they were born in the USA.
So I overlook it. He didn't have to release or support PB to non-French customers so he gets points for trying.
But if no one is going to get offended, I could submit rewritten documentation pages for English all day long.

Invalid argument, because I'm not publishing a French document when English is my mother tongue. Anyway, as I said, I was NEVER trying to ridicule Fred. It's everyone else who got all uppity about it.freak wrote:So how good is your French then?

I do wish this forum had an ignore feature for the uppity folks.
Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories.

So what, you want Fred only to publish the help in French?MachineCode wrote:Invalid argument, because I'm not publishing a French document when English is my mother tongue. I think he and Freak are doing a great job maintaining Purebasic in three different languages!

Jeez people, it was no big deal originally! Just a friendly "sometime instead of somewhen is better English" and now it's all gone to shit. I'm sorry I ever brought it up.

a) Yes, and for me that was obvious, and you explicitely wroteMachineCode wrote:Jeez people, it was no big deal originally! Just a friendly "sometime instead of somewhen is better English" [...]
Personally, I am happy when a native speaker bothers to correct my English, because that way I have a chance to learn something.MachineCode wrote:No offense intended.
b) A moderator should separate this "language discussion" from the "We are happy that PB 4.60 has been released." discussion, shouldn't he?
