I'll believe it when I see it!

Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.
PureBasic: Born in 1998 and still going strong to this very day!

Those high end Amigas look like they can load a VHS tape.

Re: Commodore returns !
$395 just for a case with keyboard? That is a lot of nostalgia. Especially when you can get a "real" one for under $20 on ebay.jboadas wrote:Starting at $395 USD

Re: Commodore returns !
I think this is just marketing hype... For one, they are using PC-Compatible parts.
And secondly the description of the "Commodore OS" as well as things like an MS Office "compatible" office suite, and statements about Open Source Software leads me to believe this is nothing but a customized Linux distro in disguise.
edit: Yeah so like I said
And as for their classic offerings - its basically a Shell with modern internal hardware (and they aren't the first to do it, albeit they did it nicely).
I think its just too good to be true.. We don't live in the age of multi-architecture computing anymore. PC's are cheap and inexpensive, other than that you have Apple products..
In order to see a true "return" we'd need to see a bonafied new architecture based on the original design concepts of the classic machines, not just a fancy shell with PC parts and a customized Linux OS.
Everything those PC's do you can do with any PC you can currently buy/build... So you're paying a high price for an aesthetic look, and likely cramped form factor that would make upgrades a serious pain in the ass..
I can't blame them for being original and trying to carve out a niche for themselves in the market, but its not my idea of a revival by any means..

Deathbed Vigil
Trailer for a film some guy made on the end of Commodore. I saw most of the footage in a different, narrated video. I think it was the raw cut.
This is the one I originally saw

Re: Commodore returns !
Is Sandy Bridge compatible with the SID-chip?
Re: Commodore returns !
The company still exists, i heard they produce phones.GWarner wrote:Didn't that whole company go belly up?
However they do not produce this wannabe Amigas. The Amiga rights do not belong to commodore anymore and are traded several times and allready used several times to sell PC's as new Amigas or even new C64s.

It was over years ago.. stop flogging a dead horse... Somebody please put Commodore out of their misery! jeezCommodore USA, LLC was founded by Barry Altman in April of 2010, with the express purpose of reviving and re-establishing the famous Commodore computer brand. We are Commodore and AMIGA fanatics, just like many of you. We ask ourselves what could have been, and we are appalled by Apple revisionism. Commodore is back, and we're determined to bring the much loved brand back to the mainstream and restore its prominence in the tech industry to that which it richly deserves. It ain't over 'till we say so.
C provides the infinitely-abusable goto statement, and labels to branch to. Formally, the goto is never necessary, and in practice it is almost always easy to write code without it. We have not used goto in this book. -- K&R (2nd Ed.) : Page 65

Re: Commodore returns !
I wonder if they even own the rights and licenses required to do business under the Commodore and Amiga names, as well as use trademarked and copyrighted materials
