GIMP 2.73 Development Release Features Single Window Mode
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-wi ... P%202.7.3/
Windows installer for GTK + GIMP 2.7.3
I hope it turns out to be nice. I might actually use GIMP instead of Photoshop if that turns out to be the case.. Although this is still a big pet peeve of mine, how the FOSS movement acts like FOSS is so great, etc.. But one of the premier projects in the spotlight to this day does not provide Windows binaries (third party has to do it), and it took them how many years to findally implement a single window interface?? This is like the single most demanded feature among users/ potential users..
A corporate/copyrighted application would have solved both of those things within the first year of release IMHO.
Anyway share your experiences, how stable it is, how the single window interface feels, etc.
I'm trying it out myself.

Gee they finally did it! I thought I had to wait for eternity. I also wonder how it could take them several years
to smash the contents of the tool containers into a splitter control...but oh well...
But since it's free and actually a descent product, I won't complain here.

Thanks for the link, i am already waiting 10 years for this. Looks like 2.8 will be good finally.

Re: GIMP 2.73 Development Release Features Single Window Mod
Thanks for the heads up!
There WAS at least one project branch a few years back that had a single-window mode, I think it was called GIMPshop, but I think it was abandoned and did not keep up with the features added to the "real" GIMP.
Here it is: http://www.gimpshop.com/index.shtml
Disclaimer: I know it is outdated, and I barely even touched it, but it was an interesting project at the time.
EDIT: Hmm, from Wikipedia:

EDIT: Hmm, from Wikipedia:
Not more than a few days after the OS X version was released and spread virally, someone who isn't me bought "Gimpshop.com", put up a site with hot-links to the files on my site and began advertising - LOTS of advertising. Soon, there were donate buttons, my name in the site's title and much more - making it look like my website. I asked that the owner stop hot-linking my files (and draining my bandwidth), so he hosted them somewhere else. I questioned his motives and he said he was just a fan and that the site was a "fan-site". It has been five years, the software has stagnated (due in no small part to my becoming discouraged by this one profiteer who trumped me, stole much of my traffic and bumped my site down to the second result when you search for "Gimpshop"). I assumed the guy would just give it up as I sadly let the project stagnate, but that hasn't happened.

Re: GIMP 2.73 Development Release Features Single Window Mod
Is it stable?
I've installed 2.7.3. one or two months ago and I've noticed that you can't save in any other format than xcf and the developer console is very annoying. It even isn't able to save the "single window mode" and start up with it.

@DarkDragon:
I actually didn't save anything when I tested it very briefly,
but IIRC the settings were stored and loaded correctly, so single window mode
was on after a restart.
But yeah, the console is very, very annoying...

The tick was there on "single window mode" but the windows were not docked.Shield wrote:@DarkDragon:

Re: GIMP 2.73 Development Release Features Single Window Mod
I will say this... IT is badly in need of the GPU acceleration they are planning to add in the future.
But still, I have found a lot of open source apps have big problems with the drawing updates and performance related to that. Even before GPU acceleration was a big thing, Photoshop never seemed to have a problem with those kinds of issues.
But then again.. since there is a debug console, it could be the fact it was compiled with a debugger active, slowing it down (I hope)

Uneven numbers ("7") are development versions, next final/stable will be 2.8.xhelpy wrote:2.7.3 is still a development version.
