No doubt about that. 2011 has just been a slow year for PB.
I would like to see one full year of nothing but bug fixes. I could care less about new features. I would just like one solid build for all platforms. Just to have something to fall back on.

I agree 100%.
Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories.

+1
This problem isnt new, the discussion happened years ago already. A simple solution that other projects do, is to handle two versions. One rock-solid branch where _all_ confirmed bugs will be fixed, but no new features will be done and one branch as it is now. So the developers can still have fun introducing new stuff and the users have a version they can actually use to produce software.
4.51 for windows was mostly stable, but i don't know about the linux version.
its good to see such posts.
As i, Creating DICOM projects for hospitals, wanted to start a conversion to MAC OSX.
Its a viewer for DICOM images with some HL7 stuff in it.

sorry, was late. Don't know how this could happen
Have changed it to the right one.
J. Baker wrote:I have been. Just waiting for the stable version now. I just don't have the motivation right now to start a new project just to be stopped again. Maybe when Fred gets back in about a week there will be some light at the end of the tunnel again. But I'm sure it will take some time even after his return before we see anything. So I'm doing what I never thought I would do... looking into game engines for Mac to at least accomplish something else this year.
Bad. Good luck then.

J. Baker wrote:Well, I started the year wanting to do a small 3D game but had issues with InitEngine3D(). Then I moved on to a 2D game but had joystick issues along with auto-stretching on a windowed screen. So I finally started and finished Sprite Monkey v1 but then couldn't continue on v2, due to a ReleaseMouse() bug. So I started helping silentworks on porting Tululoo Game Maker to Mac. All was fine and working except for a Scintilla bug that also showed up on PureBasics editor itself.
Not only that but I can not even open the help file, as it is blank. So I have to keep going to the help file directory within the PB folder from time to time to double check myself. Or just to look something up.
It's just been a long year with PB and I feel like I haven't gotten much done.
Congratulations you are 'growing' out of PB! Why not try another language to get stuff done? You will learn and grow as a programmer.
Remember, if your only tool is a hammer then everything starts to look like a nail! You don't have to use PB for everything.
Try http://unity3d.com/ for games. It uses C# and Javascript for programming, both of which will teach you lots.
C provides the infinitely-abusable goto statement, and labels to branch to. Formally, the goto is never necessary, and in practice it is almost always easy to write code without it. We have not used goto in this book. -- K&R (2nd Ed.) : Page 65
I think a bug-blitz would be great but it seems like the PB guys always address all the known reported bugs anyways -- if they're not reported then they can't fix them...
Please get in those bug reports guys!
Has anyone here gone from PB to Qt for development, now that they have the LGPL license? Qt Creator IDE looks pretty nice too.

You make me sound like a "Who", who is growing out of it's nose. But I have been looking over Unity.

It looks like more then us feeling that way. I glad others are also seeing the importance of bug fixes and possibly optimizations over features. On other forums (for different software) people will complain about bug fix updates when they don't get new features. I've never understood that. If you can not create a solid optimized app, what's the point?

I would say this years ago and get flamed for it. I am glad to see more people are agreeing with me now.

I would also think it would give Fred a break from worry about new features and just going back to what he is familiar with and fixing bugs. Something like, new features added, then bug fixes for the next 12 months. Cycles like that would be fine with me.
As we still have some major bug to fix on Linux/OS X we will postpone the final release somewhen in mid-october.
It sounds like a lot of of Mac and Linux bug fixes are coming up in the next month or two. I wouldn't worry too much, take a break and work on something else if you need to... But yes, it might be a good idea to request an all-bugfix version.

I read that too. But Fred used the word "bug", as singular. I wonder if this has to do with the PB editor itself, then all the bugs that need fixed?

Given that English is not Fred's native language, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the inflection of a noun

You could be right. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
