That's what I'm thinking. Fred and Freak do a fantastic job on updating PureBasic, and we all agree that it's a tough job. There's an expectation here that updates will occur every few months, and that expectation was brought on simply because that's what the team used to do. Perhaps it's time for that to stop. Perhaps we need to back off a bit and expect updates maybe once every 6 months, or even once a year; because we're putting too much pressure on the guys. I wouldn't mind an update once a year, because 99% of the other paid apps I own don't EVER get updates at all! We're blessed when it comes to PureBasic. What do you all think? Is it time we backed off and stopped expecting so much from the team?
Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.

I agree with you when it comes to new features... However I don't agree when it comes to bug fixes. There should be a lot more bug-fix-only releases! That way the updates we get right now wouldn't be that big itself and because of this not that much of trouble for the team I guess.

Code: Select all

What you say would be nice, but there is one serious caveat to that, and here it is. We all enjoy programming, and do our best to get
a complex program that we create to work, just as we intended, and with out any bugs. But it usually doesn't happen right away does it!
When we see a bug, we fix it, until we think we have fixed them all. But then when someone else uses our program, they find a bug.
That's exactly why you need to have a beta program. And be extremely glad that they do, and share that with us. Because as hard as
they may try too, and think that they have fixed all the bugs, there is always some hidden ones that are revealed by us, by sharing that
beta with us. Having the beta program is nice! But we need to remember that despite any new and interesting features, it is still a
beta. So we need to code accordingly with that in mind. There is going to be bugs. So we should just help them out like you would like
some one to help you with your code, by bring their attention to any bugs we may find. Them we should just wait patiently for them to
correct them. Complaining doesn't help at all. It just really does cause burn out. Imagine if the team just got fed up with it all and
quit because of the constant complaining. Then what?!? Not a nice picture for us would it be. So for serious programs, just stick to
the release version. Just use the beta for learning and testing and helping them out . Remember, that it is just that. A beta!

When I wrote my comment, I wasn't referring to bug fixes, but rather to updates (witness "do a fantastic job on updating PureBasic", rather than "fixing PureBasic"). But I should've made that more clear.

i have a feeling the topic will be closed by freak within a little time frame.

Why?
Last i saw a topic about OOP. I really dont, and really, dont understand why those topics gets closed.
You dont have to agree with others, if anyone wants OOP and the designer not. So be it! Talk about it!

But!!
Closing a topic is childish, even if more exists of them. A forum is to talk about everything, remember that! Even though the topic allready has been spoken out. Otherwise, quit with having forums and go IRC and do some kicking on people!

I hate those things. Im fairly new here, and i didnt know about OOP and its future things. So, closing the topic doesnt help me much huh!

Anyway, one last thing. If i had to let my customers down, like this, saying nothing. That way i would be loosing customers! People gets irritating to some kind of level. And after that, there is no rescue.

And if you dont even care about your customers, keep your mouth shut tight.

@DoctorLove
I don't think this topic gets closed if the tone stays as it is right now...
As you say you are kind of a newbie here, so you probably don't know that this whole OOP thing gets discussed like every 4 month or so...The problem is that it sooner or later always gets personal with users insulting each other.

That is sometimes a factor, no argument there, but even if a discussion is getting heated they will let it go on if new ideas are being presented and the topic is actually getting somewhere. The problem with this particular topic is that everything's been said a dozen times already and there are just no new thoughts being shared. There's just no point in rehashing it all yet again.

While this is all conjecture, perhaps they should go back to the old release model vs. the new more-frequently-but-smaller one ?
