For everything that's not in any way related to PureBasic. General chat etc...

Virus coders to jail? (What do you think?)

Post by merendo »

Since Lovesan and Gibe are around, I have built my opinion, that programmers, that write Virus programmes should be punished by at least one year in jail. These people just make trouble and do not do useful things for the internet and world of computers.

What is your opinion? Post replies and post your opinion in the poll.

Not those that write them but those that set them loose on the world. I've written a few things that could be considered virus but never turned them loose on anyone.

Destruction of property = jail time.

They maybe harmless jokes that don`t cause and damage, but what about the effects on the networks they spread over?
There can still be financial costs for victims of these jokes. For example, it could bring down a company network for several hours just down to the increased network traffic it causes.
I`ve even heard of newbies formatting their HD and reinstalling Windows because they didn`t know any better, and thought the joke was a real damage causing virus.

Yea- though even the annoying ones do cost people. Bandwidth for these lame ass worms for example... Even if they don't destroy anything per se it's still costing me money because I have to buy my bandwidth!

Anyway.. No just for writing them, yes for releasing them!

On my work with NETSEND PRO, i've made a lot of code that could be used to shutdown anti-virus software and cause real damage to a system.

For all effects the code could be considered a virus, except it only works to blood hound a specific task and kill it.

If anyone changed a couple of lines it would be real bad.

So i voted in the "only if it causes damage" ...

To be 'real', there a an undeground world where some guys feel proud to be hackers o crackers.
Those people feel good playing to be the 'bad guys' and many of their codes, posts, etc. are ilegal and i think that jail is the best place to put those 'bad guys' until they grow up and become mature people.
