Cowon J3 Media player [RETURNED, CLOSED]

Post by GWarner »

Does anyone else have a Cowon J3 MP3/Media player?

I just got one and holy crap! Could they have possibly made the text on the screen any smaller?

It's a nice player and I really like it, but unless there's a way to increase the size of the text it displays it's unusable to me.

So I'm wondering if there is a way to increase the size of the text it displays, I've also asked jetAudio, the makers of the Cowon players) but haven't heard back from them yet.

...according to the on-line Manual, you can zoom in/out in document mode, change the text height of sub titles in video mode, set the display menu to 'counting text' mode.

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.

The counting text menu helps but still there is a lot of displays on the J3 that I still can't read without a magnifier so as far as accessability goes, it fails misserably.

I'm just going to have to return it as unuasable.

I may also consider filing a consumer complaint against the company for failing to make it's products accessable to people with disabilities. It's long past time that the manufacturers of products realize that some people that will want to buy and use their products will have disabilities that their products need to acomodate.

It has already begun, Disney has been slapped with a class action law suit because their web site fails to be accessable to people with some handicaps.

I was thinking of going back to Zune, at least I could read it's displelay, but it now looks like Microsoft is bowing to the iPod and discontinuing the Zune players and the last thing I want is an orphaned device.

Have you tried installing RockBox on your player?
And, if it's already installed, try a different theme?

Unfortunately, after getting zero response from jetAudio tech support, I decided to return it.

At least I do get timely responses from Zune.net...

Cowon's product may be good, but to me, after the sale support is a part of the product and in Cowon's case it was completely missing. To me the inaccessability and now the apparent lack of support was more than enough reason to return it.

Class action? I guess, but it's three (yes, just three) people who have sued Disney, because their website doesn't provide text alternatives to the audio and video elements. Um, right. Like that makes sense. How is text going to replace a video?
Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.
PureBasic: Born in 1998 and still going strong to this very day!
