Android Basic (introductory offer)
Android basic is now available: http://www.basic4ppc.com/android/screenshots.html
I haven't tried it yet but it looks pretty cool.

Re: Android Basic (introductory offer)
I've bought this already - haven't had time to do a lot of coding with it yet (and waiting to buy an real Andriod device!), but looks very good indeed. I did some testing with the Beta releases and have used the previous Basic4PPC (Win Mobile 5 & 6) for a couple of years - excellent.
My current plan is to use these for the Mobiles (ARM) and PB for Intel machines. A really nice thing for me is that they can all share the same database files, using quite similar code

Re: Android Basic (introductory offer)
This looks quite good.
I would be very interested in opinions of anybody using this as I have just set up Eclipse Java version with the intention to start teaching myself a little about it briefly until i get the feel for it & then intend switching to the Eclipse C version.
Would be interesting to know how this Basic compares to Eclipse & if it would be much easier for me to go this way before I get too deeply involved in Eclipse variants?

Re: Android Basic (introductory offer)
Thanks for the tip

Re: Android Basic (introductory offer)
I just bought Basic4android after reading some good recommendation from a forumner that I came to know to be helpful and reliable over at the PlanetSquires FireFly and Basic4android forums.
I come from a VB6 background and can see how this is going to help me in being "quick to market" for Androis apps.
I received a coupon code from the purchase and was told I can share the code in any way I like.
The coupon code is: bdgcab. Edited: Please use someone else's code. I already have the maximum 4 more years of updates.
The coupon code can be used up to 20 times and entitled new users to a 50% discount. Go to the purchase page and click on the Plimus button.
My benefit when you use the coupon code is more years of free upgrades. I want to be honest upfront to avoid misunderstanding.

Re: Android Basic (introductory offer)
No time to test and no Android, as yet, but I also took advantage of your discount coupon and have passed my own coupon on to friends. Thanks.
BTW, here are two relatively inexpensive Android tablets...
I have no idea about the support level and upgrade path, if any, for the second.

Thanks for this! My next phone will be Android (within the next couple of months), and this has arrived perfectly, as I have been utterly disgusted with Google's development environment so far... Not to mention the language!

Hi infratec and dhouston,
Thanks for extending my update time.
Perhaps you can also share your coupon codes here too for others to get the 50% discount and their update extension.
I have gotten an email on update extension from Erel for infratec's purchase yesterday but I have not gotten one yet for dhouston's today. Maybe later.

Re: Android Basic (introductory offer)
I bought it early yesterday so you should have received it by now.
I'm spreading the wealth around by sharing mine on a couple of embedded Basic forums that I frequent.

Re: Android Basic (introductory offer)
csk,
I just added one more purchase using your code - thank you!
$50.00 for a decent Android development platform seems like a bargain.
Now to start developing some tablet apps...
Eric

Re: Android Basic (introductory offer)
Thanks everyone.
I received email from Erel that there are several new orders using my coupon code and I now have the maximum of additional 4 years of updates. I posted my coupon code here an in PlanetSquires FireFly forum.
You guys should post your coupon codes here too.

Re: Android Basic (introductory offer)
I honestly dont know why in 2011 you would use a programming environment which restricts your work to one or max. two platforms when just the mobile market already has at least 5. Not to mention PC, linux, Mac OS X, web (html5 or others).
In 2007 you may not have had much of a choice, but in 2011 you certainly do.

For the same reason PC game developers continually focus on x86/Windows platforms, and not Linux/Apple for PC games. Because that is the dominant product in the market. Android is heavily advertised as an alternative to Apples iPhone. Apple already has a strong hold on the mobile apps market, but Google/Android hope to break that or at least compete reasonably well.
Limiting things to one platform is not always a negative. If you have decent marketshare for your target platform to work with, then you have a fair chance of broadly appealing to a narrow audience, as oppose to barely appealing to a broad audience.
