Doing a search for users posts,
I just saw, that many times (not in all cases) leading quotes
are displayed as if those where the users own words.
Only when going to the post itself, did I see,
that it truely was a quote, not the users own words.
Edit: It seems this does not occur if the post starts with a nested quote (quote of quote),
but only if it starts with a simple quote.
(At least, if I evaluate, the last few of my posting contributions.)
Edit: nope, I also found a case with a nested quote, with that problem.

could you post a link ?

As those are my posts and I would not usually want others to take that short route,
I would like to remove it again some time later.
Edit:
About half of the posts, I recently contributed to, fall into this category.
(Naturally this is subject to change and fluctuation.)

Re: Search for users posts gives wrong impression
If you search for users posts it shows YOUR postings... words you have posted in various threads. I don't see any issue with what is displayed.
Everything attributed to you is what you wrote. That is the purpose of that feature.
If you showed some code or had a helpful remark for someone in a different thread a user can search for your postings to see (hopefully) where you left the information.
I use this feature many times this way.
Do you just NOT want people to be able to search for posts with your name?
You can ALSO edit the post subject up at the top... the default is RE:XXXXX <-- where XXXXX = whatever the original topic of that thread is... if the subject line is what you are objecting to?

@Rook Zimbabwe:
If you do not really read completely, what was written ...,
you will often end up answering the wrong question.
This is a quote:
Most of the time this means, the words originated from someone else,
identified by "someone" i.e.
When you quote someone, you sometimes or even most of the time do so,
because you want to show what is different about his/her opinion or experience
compared to your opinion or experience.
If this then turns up in the list of found posts as:
"text of someone", not showing that it was really a quote,
it looks as if it was really your opinion or experience,
when in fact you really quoted it, to criticize it or
tell your experience in contrast to it.
Therefore this is given a wrong impression about you.

Re: Search for users posts gives wrong impression
It's true. When go to Marlin's profile and click the link "Show posts by this user", the above post is displayed as follows:
I agree that it could be "disturbing" when you browse through the posts, but when you click the post to get to the thread, you'll see the whole post and that there's a quote.
No sign, that "text of someone" is a quote (if he hadn't pointed it out with "This is a quote").@Rook Zimbabwe: If you do not really read completely, what was written ..., you will often end up answering the wrong question. Re: Search for users posts gives wrong impression
There are some cases where the quotes are shown
the same way as in the original posts.
(Maybe it depends in some way on the length of the text?)
Such examples I find (currently) on the second and 3rd page of the search results for my posts.
This would be some kind of worst case scenario:
You started a post with a quote
because you dissagreed with what was said
and in the list, close to your "name"
only this text you disagree with is shown.
Others searching your posts (later),
only see this in the list,
believe this is what you said,
while in fact, it is, what you disagreed with...
the same way as in the original posts.

Re: Search for users posts gives wrong impression
I can kind of understand why people would take issue with this..
But at the same time, I think its not that important. If I am searching by posts for specific information, when I find something relevant to what I am looking for, I open the link in a new window to show the entire thread/post, so I can read more of it, or the entire thread if needed. At which point, I would clearly know who is saying what.
I mean.. it's not like people search the forum all day long and then see something by someone and say "what a noob! haha!". Which is really what we're talking about here.
A search feature returns hits relevant to what you are looking for. It's not meant to do everything else.. But then again I could be wrong.

Re: Search for users posts gives wrong impression
@Zach:
I believe you've been overlooking the fact, that we were not talking about
a general search for information,
but a search for a specific users posts,
brought about when going to a users profile
and clicking the link "Search user’s posts".
I admit, that I did not use that feature very much
and the scenario, you described, is probably much more common.
But even then wrong impressions could occur,
if one is not aware of the mentioned effect.
(I did not think of that aspect, before you gave me the idea.)
