Improved forum defense against spammers

Got an idea for enhancing PureBasic? New command(s) you'd like to see?

Improved forum defense against spammers

Post by blueznl »

Lately the amount of spam is getting annoying. Is there a way to improve the board's resilience against spam?

I think there are some forum addons, see the last thread I asked for it: http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... 17&t=43135

If I remember correctly freak said in the german forum that the current amount of spam is successfully possible to handle with the exclamation button so I think they don't want to change it for now... :(
If any of you native English speakers have any suggestions for the above text, please let me know (via PM). Thanks!

Or maybe a new section "Spam" like in Arduino's forum (http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaB ... web_system) :?:

This section would be useless. You can report spam through the exclamationmark at the right bottom of each post.

I know about the report button, but with the section, Moderators/administrators of the forum did not received several reports where you have only one report in the spam section.

I can't understand you. You say "with the reportbutton the moderators get all postings and with the section they would only receive one report for a group of spampostings" which would be far more difficult for the moderators and the users of this forum to handle.

I understand the amount isn't too much to deal with it manually, it's the annoyance it causes...

getting spam every single day is something that shouldnt be ignored, if you ask me. i cant remember when was the last time i visited this forum, without running into spam. and since this forum is so vulnerable, it will get worse and worse, if you continue ignoring it.

Hardly. I was able to view porn here the other day.

Since this is a "feature request", we should have Fred/freak stop work on PB and work on a spam filter?

I'd rather use the ! flag.

cheers

I think the ! Flag is good enough, especially now I know that it is there. Perhaps more of the regular forum visitors could be given the right to delete spam, so that it can be taken out more quickly.
