Poker bot competition?

Post by Joakim Christiansen »

Hi people!

I was just wondering if this could be interesting to people in here.
I started making what will be a Texas Hold'em poker server with the idea that bots could connect to it over internet to compete against each others.

Currently I have no idea when this will be finished, but I have some questions for you:

1. Would this interest you and would you be skilled enough to participate with a homemade bot?

2. What kind of features would you like for such a system?

The protocol will be easy and well documented and I also plan to support WebSockets (HTML5) so even people programming in Javascript could participate. But one can program the bot in ANY language!

I don't know anything about WebSockets but "so even people programming in Javascript could participate" sounds dangerous.

The only thing I ever done like this was an odds calculator for PokerStars. I never listened to it though so I never won anything.. :?
I will try to participate when you get it going!

Basically WebSockets let a javascript connect to a server and send data back and fourth without using bloated HTTP requests. I have a friend who program mostly in javascript, so I want to let him participate, nothing dangerous at all. No script kiddies will get to hack my server

Well, an odds calculator is a good start!
Good, I will notify you whenever I finish this thingy! :D

My dad already made a poker bot some time ago, he tried it against real humans on the internet (when I showed him how), it didn't give him profit though.

Would you be releasing the source code to your poker server?

I'm not sure, I realized that it might be used for real poker clients and maybe there is money in something like that.
But if I finish it and people want to look at it I might send them it in a PM.
It might take some time, I have to be careful and not use the computer too much since I get some weird eye pain :?
