I pay around $45.00 / mnth for 1.5Mb down & 256K upstream + $25.00 / mnth for telephone service ( Total around $70.00 / mnth which I think is very similar to your 449 figure converted ). No TV service, I just use free to air digital for that. I am forced to have the telephone service in order to get adsl into the home. I actually use Voip for all telephone at about 1/3 the cost of analogue calls nowadays, except my security system which wont work properly with Voip.
Our fibre system when we get it will apparently be very competitive with this adsl service I now have from a cost perspective, but gee's it will be nice to get some serious upstream speed going. I think I would be very happy at 25/25Mbits actually :)

( I can get theoretically 24Down /1.4Mbits Upstream at my home now for around $65+$25 for phone link if I want by using adsl2+ but just couldn't be bothered with that until I can get decent upstream speed. )

Speed isn't evrything. I had a NetCom 3G modem which was fast enough when it worked.

Problem is, it kicked me out on an average og five to six times each session, in the middle
of a PayPal transaction, or paying bills on the net or even posting on forums.

To me this is prioity one, that the networks work reliably, second priority is speed, and
NetCom failed miserably.

I haven't tested other providers after that sorry encounter, but other people tell me Telenor
works very well, althoug they aren't exactly cheap.. but their ADSL service keep failing, so I'm
getting a fibre-optic cable soon, so goodbye to Telenor too.

I agree with you on that. I also had NetCom and they suck big time.
Telenor seems to have the best and most stable software and modems.
After that, all providers on the Telenor systems or the Network Norway systems. Now I have OneCall for my Acer Aspire One 3G machine and Ludo Business for my HTC Desire. Both of them are as stable as can be.
