Editor Font size.

Post by HarrysLad »

I'm new to Mac and to PB development on the Mac.
Having just installed PB 4.51 can I ask . . .
. . . why can't I change the editor font/size and why – if the font/size can't be changed – is the editor stuck with such a tiny (practically unreadable) font size? Am I missing something here?

Oh, I'm running a 15” MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.3 (if that's relevant).

TIA

Hi Dave,

This has been asked several times as you can read below.

I don't see that the font is tiny. I can see if you had the disadvantage of a 27" monitor :D Here is what it looks like for me.

Yeah, bold text is missing. Thanks, Vera, for the Linux example below.

Hi William,

I noticed after posting that the problem had been noted before. Doh!
Sorry about that, my old eyes were still watering from trying to read that tiny editor font. :)

Anyway, apart from buying a (much) larger monitor . . . is there a solution/fix for this?

Hi,

Another newbie here.

I've noticed the same problem and wholeheartedly agree with the original poster.

Having read the other threads there doesn't seem to have been an official response to this. I was rather keen, delighted in fact that I could program in the same language on the mac as well as the PC so this seems a bit of a shame. Also the font type can't be changed from what I can see. One of the first things I did on the PC version was the change the font to Courier New (I think - not in front of the PC now) which made a big difference. Here we are on a Mac and can't seem to do either.

Also, is there any kind of context-sensitive help available. For example, highlighting a keyword and pressing a key for a description. It doesn't seem possible to search for a keyword from the 'help' menu either. Or maybe it's me!

Would appreciate any help.

Many thanks

Simon

PS - great language though. Who'd have thought BASIC would have come so far (I come from the C64/BBC Micro/6502 world and am just getting back into coding after too long!)

context-sensitive help
Select the Keyword and then 'Help' should bring up the page in the manual.

In the 'Manual/Overview/Commands Index' is a list of all the commands.

@Hysteria
Well~come on board :)

yes your right - it's sad there hasn't been any official reply to this drawback yet or any other way to work around it.

@vera - thanks!

Hmm, changing the background to white helps...the white colour scheme or whatever it's called.

The F1/right-click help doesn't work (at least on my Mac). Works a treat on the PC though!

It's annoying as I wanted to use the Macbook at my main dev machine so I'm not stuck at sitting at the PC but the PC's IDE seems to have the edge...

Another somewhat confusing thing I've noticed relates to the demo programs involving graphics. Now, frankly, I'm amazed that as many work cross-platform as do but I've observed an issue where (on the Mac) some work as full screen, some work as a certain sized-screen but I've not found one that does them all. Some programs stop with an error that appears to be specifiying a colour-depth of 0bps which clearly can't help. It doesn't appear to be a Mac feature 'thing' as some of the demos work in full screen and some don't. I won't list them as I'm sure others have seen this unless it's just my machine...and then they won't have seen it at all :D

Perhaps the PureBasic team guys can chime in and let us know if there are any plans in these areas.

There is no easy fix for this problem. We will get to it, but it will take a while.

If there's no easy fix to the problem of being able to adjust the editor font size, could you at least make the editor text larger with the next release? About twice as big maybe?
