What caused the forum usage to spike in 2005?
I've always been curious. Is there anyone here who knows?

Version 3.94 was released on 16th August 2005:
http://www.purebasic.com/news45.php
Added: Brand a new IDE and 3 Debuggers (!)
Then the massive 4.00 upgrade happened on 8th May 2006:
http://www.purebasic.com/news48.php
Added: Native unicode support
Added: Subsystems support
Added: Unlimited length strings in both ascii and unicode mode
Added: Thread safe commandset and strings
So, it was quite an exciting time!

I think it could have been a forum bug?!

Possibly, but I was there at the time and I definitely remember seeing
LOTS of names in the "Who is online" list. Whether they were all real
users, or a bug, is a question maybe only Fred can answer.

Sometimes search engine spiders tend to go berzerk. Happened on my forum a few times and each time it set a new online record.

From my experience most likely bots registering. (but I could be wrong)Mistrel wrote:Most users ever online was 265 on Sat Dec 10, 2005 6:47 am
I like logic, hence I dislike humans but love computers.

Those spikes are from search engine bots being misinterpreted as multiple visitors. phpbb2 did not distinguish bots from real visitors.
